Lynn Hilburn: School house memories
This time of year brings memories of the time I spent getting part of my education in elementary country schools back in the 1950s.

30 YEARS AGO — IT’S BEGINNING TO LOOK LIKE CHRISTMAS: Area residents woke to snow Tuesday morning, with accumulation ranging from a light dusting in some portions of the county to three inches in others. Area schools were closed because of slick roads, basketball games were canceled and FASCO’s service awards banquet was postponed due to the weather. Dirt moved for 7th Street bridge

Swearingen honored for community values
Caden Swearingen, of Cassville, was a recipient of Mercy Health’s 2025 Values in Action Award for the southern Missouri region that includes Thayer, Hollister, Branson and Springfield, during a special ceremony held in Springfield on Sept. 23.
