About the Owners

The Cassville Democrat is owned by Troutman Media LLC, an S Corp. managed by Kyle Troutman, Cassville Democrat Publisher, and Jordan Troutman, Cassville Democrat General Manager.

Kyle Troutman moved to Cassville in 2014 from Searcy, Ark., where he worked for The Daily Citizen as a news reporter, sports editor, and designer. He was hired to be editor of the Democrat on Jan. 13, 2014, and he was then made editor of The Monett Times in July of that year.

In 2017, Troutman was named William E. James/ Missouri Outstanding Young Journalist for daily newspapers, and in 2022, he won a Golden Dozen Award from the International Society of Weekly Newspaper Editors. He has also overseen the Cassville Democrat through six consecutive Gold Cups (2015-2020) from the Missouri Press Association’s Better Newspaper Contest, naming the Democrat the best small weekly newspaper in Missouri.

Jordan Troutman is a graduate of Southwest High School and was hired as a reporter at the Cassville Democrat in August 2018. She and Troutman wed in October 2020 and have two daughters.

The Troutmans purchased the Cassville Democrat from CherryRoad Media on Jan. 1, 2023, returning the newspaper to family ownership after corporate ownership since 2004. With personal connections to the towns and communities the Democrat covers, the purchase of the paper was important to Jordan in a way it could never be to a corporation.

About the History

The Cassville Democrat, founded in 1871, is a weekly newspaper in Cassville, Mo., that is distributed on Wednesdays. In a city of about 3,000 people, the coverage area extends into central and southern Barry County. The Democrat focuses on local news and sports and has won numerous awards from state and international organizations. The paper has also won six Gold Cup awards from the Missouri Press Association, naming it the best small weekly newspaper in the state from 2015-2020. In 2022, the Cassville Democrat won 22 statewide awards, and in 2023 received 11, including First Place in General Excellence.
