Barry County sales taxes gain in September
Sales tax income in September to Barry County cities and the county government inched upward from a year ago, creeping back to the 2022 level but still 4% under the peak at the pandemic surge in local sales in 2021. The seven Barry County cities collecting sales tax received $869,577.68 in September, up 1% from a year ago.

Bus bids come in high
The Cassville school district will have to spend nearly 50% more on its next purchase of school buses, necessary to keep the wheels going ‘round and ‘round on the 1,500 route miles the district covers daily. At the Cassville School Board September meeting, Jake Kloss, transportation director, said the district replaces five diesel buses every three years, and this cycle, only one company, International, submitted a bid to the district.
All roads lead to the playoffs
Hovering at .500, the Cassville boys soccer team is approaching the midpoint of the season, with the second half marked by road games and an uphill battle to compete in one of the most talented Class 2 districts in the state. Jake Forste, Wildcats coach, said Cassville (6-5) feels it should have picked up a couple more wins in its first nine games this season, dropping 1-goal contests to Monett and McDonald County.
Sports Briefs, Oct. 2
The Cassville softball team (11-9) stayed above .500 by splitting a pair of Big 8 contests last week. The Lady Wildcats fell on the road to McDonald County, 7-3, but defeated district rival Nevada, 6-1.

Barry County Bows double up at state
The Barry County Bows, a 4-H bow-shooting club, had seven youths compete at state on Sept. 22 at Prairie Grove Shotgun Sports in Columbia. Participants included: Savannah Doucet, Eli Madsen, Connor Madsen, Alec Smith, Zoei Stockton, Lydia Stockton and Garrett England.

Cassville beats Class 2 No. 1 by 1
The Cassville football roller coaster kept on rolling Friday, with the Wildcats rising from the depths of Week 3’s East Newton loss to surprise Lamar at home, 35-34. After suffering its first loss to the patriots in nearly 20 years in Week 3, the Wildcats returned home in Week 4 with resolve.
