Trout Tales, Feb. 1
It was a little colder than my normal 58 degree Roaring River water last week and we got about 4 inches of snow, so I popped over to the football field to do some sledding. Had the time of my life slipping around with these kiddos.

Cassville R-IV School District is making consistent communication a top priority for 2023. One of the best ways to build and maintain good relationships is to form and maintain open communication.

The Cassville girls basketball team (12-8) picked up a conference win at home on Jan. 26, defeating East Newton, 43-29.
6 Wildcats make finals in Seneca
It was the last regular-season tournament of the year, and the Cassville boys showed they are ready for districts. Six of the eight Wildcats competing reached the championship match in their respective weight classes, and two came home with gold medals.
Cassville hires Parnell as AD
An internal hire at the Cassville school district last week will bring a familiar face back to high school athletics. Doug Martin, hired as athletic director in 2015, is retiring and will be replaced by former Cassville football coach Lance Parnell.
Bobcat stolen from primary playground
A piece of heavy equipment was stolen from the Cassville Primary School playground construction site in the overnight hours of Jan. 22.
Debate tourney turns to lockdown
A Saturday speech and debate competition in Springfield took an unexpected turn during the finals round, as six Cassville students and one teacher were forced to use the run, hide, fight techniques taught to be as safe as possible when facing a potential shooter. At around 7 p.m.

Something smells in Barry County
A federal judge ruled on Jan. 18 that Tyson Foods, George’s Inc. and other poultry processors were responsible for polluting the Illinois River Watershed in Oklahoma with run-off from chicken litter that had been land-applied as fertilizer.
