Barry County sheriff candidates to take the stage
Voters seeking more information on Barry County sheriff candidates will have the opportunity to hear from three first-hand on Friday at the Barry County Sheriff Candidate Forum. The free-to-attend event, set for 7 p.m.

Kyle Troutman: Join us for Friday’s forum
Have you ever lost sleep from a mixture of excitement and anxiety? Such has been the case for me the past couple nights as my mind has raced and raced in anticipation of this Friday, when the Cassville Democrat will host its first political forum under Troutman Media LLC ownership. At 7 p.m.

Gary Schad: Northern Commissioner Questionnaire 1
To continue the job I started, which is to keep Barry County moving in the right direction. For those of you who may not know prior to me joining the commission the county was experiencing a reduction in sales tax due to the 2008 recession where even services and staff were eliminated to maintain a balanced budget. I’ve been able to work with the other office holders to pull Barry County out of that deficit and improve the budget to where we are now actually able to fully run the county and even put back some for reserves. I’d like to ensure this continues and our county is able to thrive.

Gary Klossing: Gary Schad: Northern Commissioner Questionnaire 1
After speaking to several people close to me, I was convinced that the taxpayers or citizens of Barry County need to know where their money is being spent and why. There were questions about the Jail purchase/build that the taxpayers were left in the dark about.

James Morgan: Sheriff Questionnaire 3 (Administration)
I am currently the Captain with the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office which is an administrative role. I assist the sheriff with the budget and order vehicles for the department. I also attended the Sheriff’s Academy in Edmond, Oklahoma.

Randy Kalbaugh: Sheriff Questionnaire 3 (Administration)
It does not matter if the budget is $400 or 4 million. You figure what is needed and where it is needed and that is where the money gets spent. I do not plan on wasting the county’s money. I intend to be surrounded by knowledgeable staff who already have a lot of money management experience. Most work at Barry County Sheriff’s Office already. Being fiscally responsible is something I take very seriously.
McGuire suspends sheriff campaign
Mike McGuire, Cassville police officer and Republican candidate for Barry County sheriff in the Aug. 6 Primary, has suspended his campaign.

Danny Boyd: Sheriff Questionnaire 2 (Jail Administration)
As the Sheriff, I am responsible for both administrations. There is really no way to set a certain amount of time for each one. I have a jail administrator and an office administrator who keep me informed daily (24/7) of any situations that require my attention. There is not a happy medium, you have to problem solve and handle situations as they come along in both administrations. If you ask any sheriff in Missouri, they will all say that the Jail is the biggest liability they have and requires more monitoring of the daily operations than the administration side.

James Morgan: Sheriff Questionnaire 2 (Jail Administration)
Operation of the jail is a vital responsibility for any Sheriff. I plan on splitting my time equally between enforcement and detention. It is my goal to make sure the jail operates in a manner that keeps the public, staff and inmates safe and secure during daily operations.

Randy Kalbaugh: Sheriff Questionnaire 2 (Jail Administration)
I plan on going through the jail every day to speak with the employees, and see how they are doing. I plan on going into each dayroom at least once a week with the jail administrator, to speak with the inmates to see what complaints or suggestions they may have.
