50 YEARS AGO: Probably the most outstanding job of traffic control ever experienced in this area was in the process of being carried out in this photo. Sheriff Vernon Still, second from left, and three members of the Missouri Highway Patrol, are shown working vehicles in the vicinity of the Ozark Folkfair over the Memorial Day weekend. Local and state officers confined their efforts to the Missouri side of the line. Just over the wooded hill in the background, and in Arkansas, there were an estimated 25,000 people attending the Bluegrass music event throughout the holiday. The fog shrouded tree line gives an idea of the typical weather throughout the three-day holiday.

10 events strong at state

ktroutman@cassville-democrat.com The Cassville boys and girls track and field teams qualified for 10 events at the Class 3 Track and Field Championships Friday and Saturday, with 11 total athletes participating. Hopes remain high for the distance relay teams, as the boys took first place and the girls took second in the Class 3, Sectional 3 on Saturday in West Plains.

Cassville golf focused on future

Wildcats’ season ends in district play The Cassville boys golf team is focused on the future and improving in all aspects of the game after the Wildcats’ season ended in the district tournament this year. Jay Rogers, Cassville golf coach, said this was a year of learning for Cassville, and it was a positive one.

28 years of Arbor Day in Exeter

Exeter celebrated Arbor Day for the 28th year in the Exeter City Park. In attendance this year was Susie Sorensen, Tree Board Member; Rhonda Scott, City Councilman; Ashley Lowe, Tree Board Vice President; and Jon Skinner, Municipal Forester with Missouri Department of Conservation. Skinner presented the board with the Tree City USA 27th year award.

Evelyn Belle May, 95, of Exeter, Mo., passed away on Saturday, May 13, 2023. She was born on May 10, 1928, in Forum, Arkansas, the daughter of Thomas and Lydia (Glocksien) Hinds, who preceded her in death.
