Cassville golf focused on future

Wildcats’ season ends in district play

The Cassville boys golf team is focused on the future and improving in all aspects of the game after the Wildcats’ season ended in the district tournament this year.

Jay Rogers, Cassville golf coach, said this was a year of learning for Cassville, and it was a positive one.

“Overall, I was fairly pleased with this season in respect to the players improvement,” he said. “While we didn’t have any varsity medalists, all the returnees from last season improved their scoring averages. We also had several who shot their best tournament scores to date.”

At the Class 3, District 3 Tournament at the Cassville Golf Club on May 8, Cole Watts was the top finisher for Cassville, tied for 24th with an 89 on the par-72 course. Lucas Hall was 47th with a 102, Shaun Bure was 51st with a 105, Andrew Dickinson rounded out the squad in 57th with a 109 and Bryson Hendrix rounded out the squad with a 128. A total of 76 golfers participated in the 16-team district.

As the Wildcats look forward, Rogers thanked those who have put time and effort into the program.

“I appreciate the contributions from our seniors and their efforts to make the team as competitive as possible,” he said. “Looking to the future, we’ll have our season scoring leader returning in Cole Watts. He just missed out on a trip to the state tournament so I know he’ll be motivated to keep improving.”

Rogers said he is also looking forward to the rest of the squad improving each outing.

“I look forward to the rest of the underclassmen returning and getting better,” he said. “We should have a few incoming freshmen that could possibly compete for varsity spots as well. I’m looking forward to what next season brings.”
