Pet of the week, Jan 3

Finch is a German Shepherd-Rottweiler mix who was adopted out from the Haven as a puppy. She is house trained and has done well with kids of all ages. She is very smart, has a lot of energy, loves to play with a ball and would do well with an active family who will keep her mind and her body engaged! Her date of birth is March 16, 2020. Finch is used to baths and getting brushed, loves car rides and is great with people. She does fine on a leash but will need a good high fence to keep her from escaping the yard.

40 YEARS AGO: MARCH 1 CAN’T BE FAR AHEAD — In fact it’s exactly 49 days until the traditional Barry County arrival of spring with the opening of Roaring River State Park. In a joint effort of the Missouri Department of Natural Resources and Conservation Commission, stream improvements have been underway several weeks. Boyd Holcomb, park superintendent, said this week the above picture is typical as crews remove gravel from the stream and Dry Hollow area. Holcomb said the trout stream from the lodge to low water bridge had been worked.

Wrestling teams battle sickness

The Cassville boys and girls wrestling teams kept themselves busy in the last two weeks of 2023, each competing in two tournaments, with the boys taking 8th in the Diamonds State Duals, and the girls participating in The Wonder Woman, a 79-team competition in Columbia. On Dec.

Kyle Troutman: Giving ‘Back 2 You’

Christmas and the New Year have come and gone, and in between those days, we at the Cassville Democrat were in the giving spirit. In April 2023, we announced a new campaign for the Democrat called “Back 2 You,” wherein we planned to portion off 2 percent of all special project sales throughout the year and donate that amount to correlating organizations in our community.

Pipe-lining project nearly completed

Mark Davis, Of St. Louis, Ill., works with Visu-Sewer Missouri to perform a rough cut on the newly lined sewer pipe on East Street between 7th Street and 8th Street. Davis uses a camera and special cutting tool to open the pipes back up for wastewater flow. The process comes after resin, which let off a smell similar to acetone when being installed, is poured into the sewer pipe and steamed to harden.

Ambulance District Notice

The South Barry County Ambulance District scheduled meetings will be moving from the second Tuesday of each month to the second Wednesday of each month. The District has also started moving them to different parts of the district to be available and in the areas it serves.
