Bob Mitchell: Riding posse 60 years ago served area well

It’s difficult to believe that one of the best representatives of Cassville and Barry County was operating nearly 60 years ago. The Barry County Sheriff’s Posse, which lasted through three sheriffs and covered 18 years, was one of the best diplomats for this area that ever existed. Unfortunately, changes in lifestyle and interests of individuals and groups permitted the Posse to fade out of the picture.

Cassville receivers dialing in

The Cassville football team struggled from injures at the receiver position in the 2021 season, and Coach Clay Weldy is hoping those challenges were left behind. This year, the Wildcats return a fair amount of experience, and some new faces are working on the wings, as well.

New baseball club sprouts in Cassville

A new baseball club is being formed in the area, aiming to bring success to the diamond in the same way the Mighty Mites and Wildcat Takedown Club have done for their respective sports. Shawn Trent and Dylan Klewer, along with other coaches and volunteers, are founding the Cassville Baseball Club for ages 9U-13U, with tryouts set for Aug.

Arts Council puts on colorful show

Education Fund donates $3K

Surprise presentations of three Cassville Education Fund grants totaling $3,000 were awarded to Cassville teachers on May 17. A grant of $1,500 was presented to seventh- and eighth-grade math teacher, Tara Hutchens, for 150 digital drawing tablets.
