Arning donates to Bright Futures

Employees at Arning Companies have made a donation of $500 to the Cassville Middle School Backpack Program. Arning team members are given the opportunity to “dress-down” on Fridays by contributing to the Casual Friday for Charity (CFFC) fund. Employees then select a local organization to donate funds raised through the CFFC program. The Bright Futures Backpack Program provides nonperishable food items to children in the district that may need food assistance over the weekend. Bright Futures, established at Cassville Schools in 2011, is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to bringing community members together to focus on the success of children. In 1982, the Cassville Mighty-Mite football program ran into a slight financial problem, so the youngsters taking part got out and raised $1,200. They didn’t ask for donations, they had a selling campaign in the community. Outstanding sales efforts were acknowledged in a season-end program, and the top sellers were announced. The top sellers included, from left, Rusty Pendergraft, Timmy Miller, Johnny Henry, Chuck Edie and Eric Lassiter. Democrat file photo

Bob Mitchell: Ardent reader told of Cassville coming

It has been some time since we have been to the Senior Center for lunch. However, on one occasion when we went to the one-time Pet Milk Plant to enjoy some of their cooking, we found ourselves seated at the same table as one of my favorite readers. She always identifies herself as a long time reader.
