Karen Patrice Caldwell, 71, Purdy, MO, passed from this life on Monday evening, July 25, 2022 while at Oak Pointe in Monett. Karen was born on October 12, 1950 in Oceanport, New Jersey.

The best defenders for the Cassville football team in recent years have had one major characteristic in common — toughness. Clay Weldy, Cassville football coach, said this year’s cast of secondary and linebackers has that gritty nature, and they will need it.
Trent takes over on the diamond
The Cassville baseball program will have a new skipper come spring, current softball coach Shawn Trent. An Ash Grove graduate and baseball player at Evangel University, Trent was the head baseball coach at East Newton for 5 years before moving to Cassville, where he has been the high school assistant softball coach and junior high head softball coach.
Woman hurt in Hwy. 39 crash
An Aurora woman was injured on Sunday in a wreck at 2 p.m. on Highway 39, a half-mile south of Jenkins.
Barry County deputy injured in collision with deer
A Barry County Sheriff’s Office deputy was injured early Sunday morning in a wreck at 12:45 a.m. on Highway 76, three miles north of Shell Knob.

Delinquent tax sale upcoming The office of Barry County Collector Skyler Bowman is preparing for the annual Barry County Real Estate Delinquent Tax Sale. Missouri law requires that land with three years of delinquent taxes sell on the fourth Monday of August each year.
Washburn water and sewer rates increase
The city of Washburn recently raised its water and sewer rates at the beginning of the month. Emily Arnett, Washburn city clerk, said the water rates went up $1, and the sewer rates went up 50 cents.

Cassville Crowder welcomes new director
The Cassville Crowder campus wished well to Angela Seymour, former campus director, on June 30 when she retired, but the new director Sarah Smith was welcomed on June 6. Smith grew up in Shell Knob and graduated from Cassville High School in 2011.

Hive aims to offer safe place for teens
New group in Cassville continues to work on receiving federal grants It all started when a Cassville native married a northwest Arkansas native, and they brought a business plan to Cassville. The Hive Youth Outreach opened in January of this year.
