Exeter’s Stephens qualifies for Joplin Globe Spelling Bee
On Jan. 31, students at Exeter elementary competed in the qualifier for the Joplin Globe Spelling Bee. Allie Stephens, a fifth-grade student, was the winner and is now qualified to compete in the annual Joplin Globe Spelling Bee on March 14.

Thang wins Purdy Spelling Bee
On Jan. 28, Purdy Elementary held its annual Spelling Bee. The winner was Solomon Thang, a fifth-grader from Abigail Buntin’s class. The runner-up was Kiya Lee’Jace Atkins. The other participants were: Bildad Chan, Thayer Friely, Mark Jenkins, Win Htet, Kaden Rosewicz, Violet Adams, and Thierry Thigpen. The Spell Master was Susan Funkhouser.

Nunez spells his way to Joplin
On Friday, fourth- and fifth-grade classroom spelling bee winners competed in the Intermediate Spelling Bee. Fifth-grade student Ares Nunez finished in first place and will travel to Joplin on March 14 to represent Cassville in the Joplin Globe Spelling Bee.

100+ words spelled in Purdy
The Purdy Spelling Bee was held on Jan. 26. Nine contestants from grades 4-6 competed. The winner was Paul Bawithawng, a fourth-grader. The runner up was Solomon Thang, also a fourth-grader. The winner spelled “multitude’ and then “journey” to win the competition. It was a very competitive match with over 100 words used during the entirety of the Spelling Bee.

Henbest spells way to win
Cassville fifth-grade Jakob Henbest spelled his way to victory in the Intermediate Spelling Bee on Friday.
