5 awarded ‘Grow Your Own’ grants
The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) has awarded state-funded “Grow Your Own” grants to 125 local education agencies.

27 compete in Elementary Beta State Convention
Twenty-seven students from Cassville Intermediate competed in the Missouri Elementary Beta State Convention in Branson on Jan. 14-16. The following students placed at the state convention and have earned the opportunity to compete at the National Beta Club Convention this summer in Orlando, Florida. Robotics: Champions, Stella Rose, Mesa Cook, Audriana Cieslinski, Nellie Reed and Lillian Artherton; Marketing and Communication: 2nd place, Braxton Decker, Jace Kennedy, Miles Arnold, Silas Buntin and Jensen Ritchie; Solo Vocal performance; Golden ticket to Nationals and 3rd place, Jaelyn Cavness; On-site Cake Decorating: 2nd place, Bristol Davis; Visual Arts, Scrapbook: champion Charley Nichols, and Jewelry: 3rd place, Addileah Aldridge; Academics, Spelling: 5th place, Lillian Artherton, Social Studies: 5th place, Elona Stillwell, and Communication Arts: 4th place, Bristol Davis.

Exeter’s Stephens qualifies for Joplin Globe Spelling Bee
On Jan. 31, students at Exeter elementary competed in the qualifier for the Joplin Globe Spelling Bee. Allie Stephens, a fifth-grade student, was the winner and is now qualified to compete in the annual Joplin Globe Spelling Bee on March 14.

27 medals won at FBLA conference
Cassville High School’s FBLA recently competed at its District Leadership Conference in Monett. As a chapter, members brought home 27 medals, including 3 district championships. Cassville advanced to the State Leadership Conference in 11 events. While at the conference, Will Finch was elected to serve as the VP of Membership for District 5 FBLA. Winners included: Bodee Rose, 1st place in Advertising; Bradyn Alley, 1st place in Computer Problem Solving; Elizabeth Butler, Lorelei Vanderhoef, Angela Byerly, 1st place in Hospitality & Event Management; Luke McNeill, 2nd place in Intro to Parliamentary Procedure; Makaiden Bolles, Elizabeth Butler, Angela Byerly, 2nd place in Entrepreneurship; Caitlyn Bonass, 2nd place in Job Interview; Kierstan Fare, Julie Gregory, Nevaeh Johnson, 2nd place in Marketing; Elly Ramaeker, Blakeley Pryor, Kailyn Speer, 2nd place in Website Design; Kaiden Shellenberger, 3rd place in Supply Chain Management; Kailyn Speer, 4th place in Intro to Financial Math; and Stratten Hendrix, 5th place in Insurance & Risk Management. Prompted by “Zero Hero” to county to 100, starting by whispering and raising every 20 numbers to as loud as possible for 80-100, Cassville Primary School students, Rowan Stanton, left, Layten Craig, middle, and Layne Greek belt out the final figure. The activities were part of the celebration of the 100th day of school on Thursday.

FBLA Entrepreneurship Workshop brings bright ideas
Cassville High School’s Future Business Leaders of America recently hosted an Entrepreneurship Day for Cassville eighth-grade students, designed to encourage an interest in business and entrepreneurship as students enter high school and access to business classes.

Beta Club participates in convention
Cassville Middle School Beta Club members recently participated in the Junior Missouri Beta State Convention in Branson. Each club member had the opportunity to select which competitive event they would like to be a part of and the following students placed in their competitions: Aiden Harris, third place, math; Cara Leach, second place, poetry; Molly Cox, Kynzleigh Scott, Reagan Truman, Addy Ramaeker, Scotti Blankenship, Cara Leach and Chazylyn Artherton, fifth place, songfest.
Exeter proposes bond issue for campus improvements
April 8, voters in the Exeter R-VI School District will have an opportunity to vote on the district investing in the future of its schools and students. Voters will be asked to approve the issuance of $2.5 million in General Obligation Bonds to fund critical improvements and new construction across the district’s facilities.

5 make honor band
On Jan. 17, 13 Cassville band students in grades 7-8 auditioned for the Southwest Missouri Junior High District Honor Band, with five students earning a spot. The honor band performed Jan. 25 at Neosho High School, with a day of rehearsal ending with a concert.

Nunez spells his way to Joplin
On Friday, fourth- and fifth-grade classroom spelling bee winners competed in the Intermediate Spelling Bee. Fifth-grade student Ares Nunez finished in first place and will travel to Joplin on March 14 to represent Cassville in the Joplin Globe Spelling Bee.
