A Kentucky man was turning heads and opening hearts in Cassville over a five-day period last week, carrying a wooden cross on his cross-country mission to spread Christian love and ministry. Gregory Jones, of Lexington, Kent., arrived in Cassville on Jan. 24 by way of Eureka Springs.

Another Cassville volleyball senior has signed a national letter of intent, committing to continue playing her sport at the college level in the fall. On Jan. 24, Josie Keeven, Cassville libero and defensive specialist, signed to Missouri Valley College in Marshfield after initially choosing forgo volleyball after high school.

Cassville woman injured in wreck on Highway 112
A Cassville woman was injured on Saturday in a wreck at 7:40 p.m. on Highway 112, three miles south of Cassville.

40 YEARS AGO: MIND SIGNS, THEY MEAN BUSINESS — Signs such as this is up on highways of the state, a result of severe break up of pavement in recent thawing weather. Jay Buxton, area maintenance supervisor, says a minimum of 75 miles of roads are in bad condition following weekend traffic. Especially hard hit are routes like Highway 37 which carries large counts of both passenger and commercial vehicles daily. Buxton said highway crews would be placing these signs at locations wherever “potholes” appear. He said the public should use caution traveling in any area road, signed or not, since break-up can occur at any time.
Wheeler named principal at Cassville Intermediate
The Cassville School Board has hired a new principal for Cassville Intermediate School, effective July 1. After 30 years in education, current Cassville Intermediate Principal Jeff Swadley is be retiring at the end of this academic year.
Cassville High School Performing Arts Center set to rise soon
The $9.8 million Cassville Performing Arts Center (PAC) will soon see red iron instead of red dirt, as progress on the facility is on track for its August completion. Clint Walton, vice president of construction operations at RE Smith, updated the Cassville School Board on Thursday, explaining what has been completed and what is yet to come.
