Cassville

Come for the fish, stay for the memories
While they may be the face of the park and the object of desire for anyone with a rod and reel, anglers say when it comes to Opening Day at Roaring River State Park, it's not the fish they are necessarily after.
Leveling up
High school wrestlers set the goal each year to improve upon their previous season’s finish, and Cassville’s boys accomplished that goal with sequential flair at the 2024 MSHSAA State Championships. Sophomores Riley James, 150 pounds, Tristan Thompson, 157 pounds, and Colten Roark, 165 pounds, were joined by freshman Kaleb Artherton, 106 pounds at Mizzou Arena in Columbia, bringing home three medals among the group of four.
Trout stocked in Roaring River
The Roaring River Hatchery has stocked 6,000 trout for the 2,000 anglers expected to converge on Roaring River State Park Friday. Now overseeing his third Opening Day, Roaring River Hatchery Manager Brad Farwell said on Monday the river is fully stocked.

Undefeated champs!
The seventh and eighth grade Cassville Middle School boys basketball seasons came to an end after both teams played in the Big 8 West Division Tournaments.
New concessionaire named
The winds of change are whipping through Roaring River State Park, as a new concessionaire has been awarded the state's contract. Roaring River Adventures LLC, a division of ExplorUS, a hospitality management company operating in parks across the country, will manage the lodging, dining, retail and meeting facilities at Roaring River State Park beginning this year.

Michelle Hilburn: Love your library!
February is National Library Lover’s Month. As a school librarian and president of the Cassville Area Friends of the Library, it’s not surprising that I love our public library.

Through the Years, Feb. 28
40 YEARS AGO: MORE LIKE A WINTER WONDERLAND — Roaring River State Park’s opening last week presented this sight... more like a winter wonderland...than a trout opening. Fishermen were obviously not out in numbers as they might have been had power outages and heavy snow not visited the area. Dressed for the low temperatures, most of the usuals were there, with some newcomers who just couldn’t resist the March 1 call.

CMS 8th-graders are the next Sharks!
Cassville middle schoolers had the opportunity to give their Shark Tank ideas a shot when they attended the FBLA 8th Grade Entrepreneurship Day. Cassville high school FBLA members organized a full day of entrepreneurial ideas and activities for the eighth-graders, then held a competition among eighth-grade tables for a chance at prizes. Students had a lot of fun, and some amazing ideas were invented. Winners received prizes in both content and commercial categories.

Randy Crane: Why we need Lent
The season of Lent began two weeks ago. Some reading this may wonder why that makes any difference.
