Kyle Troutman: Off the ground

The beginning of July is a time of peak patriotism in the United States, but as surely as you can count on the flood of Red, White and Blue, you can also count on another thing — complaints. Ordinances regarding fireworks within city limits vary as much as the arguments for and against the pyrotechnics.
Through the Years, July 12

30 YEARS AGO: This finale of the Shell Knob Chamber of Commerce fireworks display over Table Rock Lake Sunday evening lit the whole area. The Central Crossing Bridge is at the lower portion of the photo. Lights on the water are either from boat docks or boats that were in the area carrying spectators. The fantastic display, well executed, drew horn blowing approval from the vessels and shouts of applause from watchers on shore. While boat numbers were thought to be down this year, observers said spectator numbers completely choked traffic in the area for about 45 minutes after the display. Highway Patrol and Barry County sheriff’s department officers were at intersections for control purposes.
Cassville can compute
A new course offering is coming to Cassville High School in the fall, one that can offer college credit and a pathway to one of the fastest-growing careers in the country — computer science. Jake Forste, who has moved from middle school computer science to the high school, will lead the four-course program, offering a semester-long intro for freshmen, a CS 1 class and two AP courses, CS A and CS P.
