Pet of the week

Meet Yosemite Sam, the Haven of the Ozarks Pet of the Week! Sam is a beautiful, devoted, and friendly dog who would love a family of his own. He does well with people of all ages and other dogs of all sizes. He is, however, a livestock and chicken chaser, so the farm life probably isn’t for him. Sam can also jump a standard fence and will need supervised playtime when outdoors. He’s a happy boy who will make every day better for his lucky adopter. People can meet him at the Haven open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day or call 417-835-3647 for more information!

Painting the community

Taking a trip down Main Street, one might notice some unique paintings on several business windows, creative images put onto glass by local woman Amanda Dotson. Dotson currently works security at the Cassville Dispensary, and she formerly worked at Walmart in asset protection.

Pickleball Club gains popularity, funding

According to a recent NPR article, pickleball is one of America’s fastest growing sports with nearly 5 million people now playing. Erin Flehmer and Caleb Reynolds, Cassville High School coaches and physical education instructors, have started a CHS Pickleball Club that encourages students to meet after school in the winter months and before school this spring to learn more about this rapidly growing sport.

Pace, late push lead to medals

It was a steady pace for Jolie Evans and a half-mile gallop for Caleb Leach that helped the pair place in the top 25 at the Class 3 MSHSAA State XC Championships on Saturday. Leach finished in 12th place with a time of 16:56.90, and Evans took 19th in the race with a time of 20:14.30.

Arning donates to Bright Futures

Employees at Arning Companies have made a donation of $500 to the Cassville Middle School Backpack Program. Arning team members are given the opportunity to “dress-down” on Fridays by contributing to the Casual Friday for Charity (CFFC) fund. Employees then select a local organization to donate funds raised through the CFFC program. The Bright Futures Backpack Program provides nonperishable food items to children in the district that may need food assistance over the weekend. Bright Futures, established at Cassville Schools in 2011, is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to bringing community members together to focus on the success of children. Through the years, Nov. 9

In 1982, the Cassville Mighty-Mite football program ran into a slight financial problem, so the youngsters taking part got out and raised $1,200. They didn’t ask for donations, they had a selling campaign in the community. Outstanding sales efforts were acknowledged in a season-end program, and the top sellers were announced. The top sellers included, from left, Rusty Pendergraft, Timmy Miller, Johnny Henry, Chuck Edie and Eric Lassiter. Democrat file photo
