Blankenship edges Johnson for commissioner
A total of 62 votes out of 5,046 votes separated the top two Barry County presiding commissioner candidates, and it was one of the most rural precincts the difference was made.

Weighing in for the August primary, 26.56 percent of Barry County’s total registered voters turned out for the Primary Election to cast ballots on several local, state and national races.

Burglars leave bank empty-handed
Two individuals were caught on video surveillance breaking into Freedom Bank in Golden, though Sheriff Danny Boyd said the pair left empty-handed.
4 stolen vehicles recovered in 3 hours
The Barry County Sheriff’s Office recovered four stolen vehicles on July 28, one from Purdy and three from Arkansas, and all within a window of three hours.

Barry County Republican Central Committee rallies supporters
Alex Bryant, who has tossed his hat into the ring for a House of Representatives 7th Congressional District seat, spoke at Friday’s Barry County Republican Central Committee Rally in Cassville. His values include pro-life and finding every child a safe and permanent home rather than death by abortion, that criminals will continue to possess guns regardless of how many gun restrictions the government could implement, and that individuals should have the opportunity to educate themselves on matters in order to make the best decisions for themselves and their families. Former Cassville teacher gets 30 years for sextortion scheme
A Branson man who previously taught at Cassville High School was sentenced in federal court today for a sextortion scheme in which 11 identified child victims, and dozens more child victims who have not been identified, were coerced to send him pornographic images and videos.

Summer school students raise money with lemonade
After reading the book Lemonade War by Jacqueline Davies and learning about business and economics, third grade summer school students in Cassville started a lemonade stand and raised $221, which was donated to the Haven of the Ozarks. The lemonade was sold at 50 cents per cup. Contributed photo

Pet of the Week
Meet Elf, the Haven of the Ozarks Pet of the Week. Elf is a two and a half year old boy weighing in at 30 pounds. According to Elf’s foster owner, he loves to play with toys and have a fun adventure. He would prefer to have some dog friends and has done great with large house mates. He does great when left alone during the work day. Elf is partially blind, but he can go up and down stairs, play with toys and run around just like any other dog. He is currently back at the Haven.
