Weighing in for the August primary, 26.56 percent of Barry County’s total registered voters turned out for the Primary Election to cast ballots on several local, state and national races. 

In the race for U.S. Senator, Eric Schmitt beat out current U.S. Rep. Billy Long 1,935 to 1,140 on the Republican ticket. 

Democrat Trudy Busch Valentine, who collected 230 votes in Barry County, beat out Lucas Kunce who tallied 203 votes. 

In the race for District 7 U.S. Representative, Eric Burlison received a total of 30.10 percent of the votes, winning against seven other candidates, including State Sen. Mike Moon, R-Ash Grove, who received 16.65 percent of the vote. Jay Wasson was second in that race, receiving 26.64 percent of the votes. 

On the Democrat ticket for District 7, Kristen Radaker-Sheafer took the county with 56.84 percent of the vote, followed by John Woodman, who received 26.01 percent of the votes in the three-candidate race. 

In the race for state auditor, current State Treasurer Scott Fitzpatrick beat out David Gregory with 80.94 percent of the vote. On the Democrat side, Alan Green, the only candidate, received a total of 485 votes compared to Fitzpatrick’s 4,141.

Scott Cupps ran unopposed for State Representative for District 158 on the Republican ballot and Johnnie Cox was unopposed on the ballot for Associate Circuit Judge Division I. 

Also unopposed were Libertarian candidates Jonathan Dine for U.S. Senator, John A. Hartwig, Jr. for State Auditor and Kevin Craig for U.S. Representative of District 7. 

Constitution Party candidate Paul Venable also threw his hat in the ring for U.S. Senator. 

On the local side, running unopposed were Joyce Ennis for county clerk, Craig Williams for circuit clerk, Danielle Still for recorder of deeds, Gretta Tripp for county treasurer, Amy Boxx for prosecuting attorney and Skyler Bowman for collector. 

In all, Barry County cast 5,831 ballots for the August Primary. A total of 5,275 Republicans, making up 90.45 percent of the total votes. Democrats cast a total of 546 votes, Libertarians cast 9 votes and 2 Constitution Party members cast votes.
