Humphries doubles up
Southwest High School Senior Robert Humphries medaled in both the mile and 2-mile on Friday and Saturday at the Class 2 State Track and Field Championships in Jefferson City. Humphries ran the 2-mile in 10:08.87, bettering his time by more than 6 seconds and finishing seventh in the field of 16.
Melton, Heim get Hall of Fame nods
A Cassville native and a Monett native will be two of six individuals inducted into the 2024 class of the Springfield Area Sports Hall of Fame (SASHOF) in October. The six-person class, plus one “Era of Excellence” team entry, represents a group of inductees whose competitive and energetic skills have set them apart.
Barry County Sheriff’s Office calls for service and reports taken, May 13-19
The Barry County Sheriff's Office responded to 225 calls for service for the week of May 13-19. The CAD events created by central dispatch are the Calls for Service Barry County Officers respond to every day, included in those calls are alarms, assaults, burglaries, domestic disturbances, DWI's, stealing, harassment, medical issues, paper service, prisoner transports, suspicious persons, traffic stops and warrant service. The annual Cassville High School Alumni Banquet will be held on Saturday at 6 p.m. at Cassville High School, honoring the classes of 1964, 1974, 1984, 1994, 2004 and 2014.
Size matters in passed bill
When it comes to pending new regulations for waste-storage basins and tanks, size will make a difference. Earthen basins the size of Denali Water Solutions’ Evans and Gideon lagoons, in Newton and McDonald Counties — which each have a storage capacity of about 15 million gallons — could be subject to tighter regulations if proposed legislation is signed into law by Governor Parson.
Decision on Shell Knob library sparks controversy
The change in plans to build a new branch of the Barry-Lawrence Regional Library in Shell Knob has generated a sharp rebuke from those who donated land for the proposed project. Donors are seeking answers as they criticize the change in direction by the library board.

The Monett Museum witnessed a gathering of community-minded women on May 2, as the second quarter meeting of the local 100+ Women organization took place. The event featured presentations from Katie Dillman, of Make Our Day, and Amy Sampson, representing the Monett Historical Society.
2 Trojans trekking to state
Two Southwest High School runners have advanced to the Class 2 State Track and Field Championships, scheduled for Friday and Saturday. At the Class 2, Sectional 3 meet in Blue Eye on Saturday, senior Robert Humphries finished fourth in the mile and 2-mile at Sectional 3 at Blue Eye High School.
