Firearm pulled in Purdy burglary
A Butterfield man is facing a felony charge after allegedly attempting to steal items from a home being built in Purdy, caught and confronted by area residents. Timothy Plopper, 34, of Butterfield, is charged with second- degree burglary and misdemeanor second-degree property damage.

30 YEARS AGO: WATCH THE BIRDIE--Cassville’s Flat Creek Emu Farm will soon be the subject of a video presentation designed to promote the fast rowing type of farming. In the photo above, Jerry Crowe, owner and a video crew doing the filming go over some of the subjects that are to be covered in this segment of the film. Crowe said the video will be used with other Flat Creek Emu promotions to anyone interested I purchasing the program. It will go through the Processes of raising the birds and their market value. All this was well and good, and proceeded well, until the mischievous birds began picking at the belts of the crew or breaking the equipment and sometimes picking their pockets of handkerchiefs.
Cassville man charged with theft, fleeing
A Cassville man is facing three felonies and a misdemeanor after allegedly stealing a generator and fleeing from deputies. Anthony Larson, 34, of Cassville, is charged with felony stealing, resisting arrest, unlawful possession of a firearm and misdemeanor driving while revoked.
Barry County Sheriff’s Office calls for service and reports taken
The Barry County Sheriff's Office responded to 197 calls for service for the week of April 8-14. The CAD events created by central dispatch are the Calls for Service Barry County Officers respond to every day, included in those calls are alarms, assaults, burglaries, domestic disturbances, DWI's, stealing, harassment, medical issues, paper service, prisoner transports, suspicious persons, traffic stops and warrant service. Lawrence and Barry County Democrats will meet on Thursday at the Angus Branch Steakhouse, located at 114 Chapel Drive in Monett. The meeting will start at 7 p.m.
Jig On the Water, April 21
Roaring River is still clear and running 33 CFS, making for some great dry fly fishing. Blue wing olives, caddis, midges, beetles and ants are all working very well.
New rules, more sludge according to EPA environmental assessment
EPA environmental assessment: changes may triple amount of waste New effluent guidelines proposed by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for wastewater discharge from meat and poultry-processing (MPP) facilities could result in as much as 1.2 million more tons of residual sludge, per year, according to an EPA Environmental Assessment (EA). The proposed new guidelines (released in December) are designed to offer additional protections to surface water and, thereby, public drinking water systems that source water from surface features.
Sales tax income rises in March
Sales tax revenues to Barry County cities and the county government generally rose in March, though more than half the cities did not share the additional prosperity. The seven Barry County cities collecting sales tax recorded a 2 percent gain over last March, thanks to both Monett and Cassville logging gains.
Kyle Troutman: Productive race ahead (we hope)
After 20 years of the same person holding the position of sheriff, Barry County in August will have its third contested election for the post, to be settled in the Aug. 6 Republican Primary Election.
