Hahn Memorial brings closure to community

A new memorial bench at the head of the walkway leading to Roaring River Spring was the site of many photos on Saturday as family and friends gathered at Roaring River to pay tribute to the memory of Eric Lee Hahn on the first anniversary of his death.

‘We just made history’

“We just made history.” Those four words rang out from the excited huddle of Cassville players and coaches as they were celebrating their first ever district softball title on Monday night, a 7-6 walk-off win over Doniphan. With two outs and the bases loaded, sophomore right fielder Naveah Johnson, whose spot in the rotation was being handled by fellow sophomore Joei Blankenship all game, was thrust into her first at-bat of the contest with the title on the line after having scored two runs off Blankenship’s bat.

Brawl back in Cassville

The Wildcats endured an offensive onslaught on Friday, falling to Class 2 No.

Journalism in a small community frequently flies from one event to another, each with their own emotions and presenting their own challenges for coverage. Such was the case over the last few days, shifting coverage from Saturday’s somber memorial of Eric Hahn, the diver who died while working in the Roaring River Spring, to Monday’s elation of winning the first ever district softball championship.

FFA Greenhands attend conference

The Cassville FFA Chapter had 32 Greenhands attend the Area 11 Greenhand conference at Crowder College in Neosho on Sept. 12. The attendees learned the importance of agriculture and FFA. They learned leadership opportunities, supervised agricultural experiences (SAE), and the FFA organization. A total of 528 Greenhands from around the area attended this conference to grow as ag students and to help the ag programs around Area 11 flourish. Freshmen Roper Taylor and Bradyn Alley both agreed they learned a lot about SAE’s. Roper also stated that he realized he already had multiple things that fit into the SAE part of FFA.
