Meet Fettuccine, the Haven of the Ozarks Pet of the Week. Fettuccine was adopted from the Haven as a kitten and was just returned to the sanctuary due to his adopter’s move.

Putting their best foot forward on first day of school

The Back to School Fair has been helping Barry County students walk into the first day of school with confidence for more than 20 years. GailReed,OACACBarry County Neighborhood Center supervisor, said the school fair is open to any student from kindergarten to twelfth grade.

Purdy FBLA Students Excel at National Leadership Conference

The Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) held their annual National Leadership Conference in Chicago June 29 through July 2. Two Purdy students earned a spot to compete at the National level after third place wins at the State FBLA Conference in April. Senior M’kena Propps and Freshman Nathan Harris traveled to Chicago with Adviser Emily Kooi to compete at the highest level. Propps returned with a 6th place finish in Client Service. Propps competed in a preliminary pool of 78 students from across the nation before moving on to the final round where she earned 6th place. Purdy FBLA is guided by Advisers Kay Wright and Kooi. The Children’s Sunday School teacher was searching for a certain word. “Children,” she said, “What would you call it if a skydiver jumped out of a plane, his parachute didn’t open, but he landed in a farm pond and was unharmed?” They thought for a moment. One student said, “Pretty good luck.”

William Sargent

William Franklin “Bill” Sargent, 62, of Fairview, died at 8:15 p.m. Monday, July 25, 2022. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 13, at New Salem Baptist Church in Neosho. Cremation arrangements are under direction of Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville. Burial will be at New Salem Cemetery in Neosho.

Norvalle Dale “Norm” May

Norvalle “Norm” Dale May, age 90, of Modesto, Calif., went to his heavenly home August 4, 2022. He died peacefully at home with his wife of 50 years, Patricia (Moore) May at his side. Norvalle was born Dec. 22, 1931, in Washburn, Mo., to Clyde May and Ruby (Stewart) May. He spent his childhood in Washburn and Wayne with much of it in the Greasy Creek area. He attended OK School west of Washburn. He had many fond memories of farm life and especially spending time with his grandparents, Ma and Pa Berryhill.
