40 YEARS AGO: SMOKEY VERIFIES FALL COLOR — Smokey The Bear went into the Barry County forests this week and verified the prediction of U. S. Forest Service personnel of the weekend of October 19-20 as the peak of Flaming Fall Review in this area. Assisting in the efforts was Anne Carey, assistant district ranger.

Meet Macaw! She is a beautiful heeler mix. Her date of birth is July 17. Macaw and her five siblings are hoping for a short stay at the Haven.

Noah Matthew Mills, of Seligman, Mo., passed away on September 14, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Child injured in Hwy. 248 wreck
A Jenkins child was injured in a wreck at 8:03 a.m. on Sept. 19 on Highway 248, three miles east of Cassville.

100 attend memorial for Charlie Kirk

More than 100 people attended the memorial, the second in two weeks for the Turning Point USA leader who was shot and killed in Utah on Sept. 10.

City celebrates art
The city of Cassville celebrated the Cassville High School art program last week, presenting the summer school participants with a special recognition and thanks for the contribution of murals in the city, enhancing community betterment and beautification, the certificate said.

The Cassville football team was only 2 points behind Lamar after a score at the start of the fourth quarter, but the Wildcats were unable to flip the score to their advantage and suffered their third loss of the season, 35-26.
