Cubs claim Big 8 title, Bailey 5th at state
The Monett boys golf team won the 2025 Big 8 Conference championship. Jaxon Bailey, pictured, became a four-time Big 8 individual champion. August Black, Bryce Hoyt and Brady Rhea earned all conference honors for the team. Bailey and Black went on to compete at Class 4 Boys Golf State at Silo Ridge Golf & Country Club in Bolivar.

Lives remembered on Memorial Day
Despite the rain and wind, Monett locals gathered on Memorial Day at the VFW Post 4207 Tom Wolfe Memorial to commemorate the lives lost in service to the country.
CBCO honors Hill
Community Blood Center of the Ozarks (CBCO) recently honored Brad Hill, owner of State Farm Agency in Monett, with an Aspire Award for his outstanding support in strengthening the local blood supply.

Matthew Da Silva, of Monett, is a Delegate to the Congress of Future Medical Leaders to be held on June 25-27 on the University of Massachusetts Lowell campus near Boston.

Monett students compete in Big 8 Art
Monett students recently competed in the Big 8 Art Show, hosted at the Cassville Performing Arts Center. This piece by Monett Senior Anjolina Luper took sixth place in large sculpture. Monett took third in the Conference as a school with 37 awards, including four firsts — group work sculptures, Aiden Taylor in large sculpture ceramics, Angelica L. in mixed media representational and K. Burdet in small hand-formed ceramics.

Burks appointed executive director of Monett Area Chamber of Commerce
The Monett Area Chamber of Commerce announced the appointment of Jasmine Burks as Executive Director, effective May 14.
News Briefs, June 4
The second First on Front concert for the year will be held on Friday, June 6, from 6-9 p.m. at the pavilion on Front Street. The event is free to attend, presented by First State Bank, and will feature live, local music and food trucks.

BCYC celebrates 60
Paige McCullough, of Monett, flips through scrapbooks from the 60 years of Barry County Youth Camp. McCullough was a counselor at the camp off and on from 1981-2010. She also served as assistant director/co-director for a stint, and she taught music and arts and crafts. The camp celebrated its 60th installment last week at Camp Smokey at Roaring River State Park, opening with a dinner for counselors and campers current and past, as well as previous administration.
