Michelle Hilburn: Faith in the future of literacy
April is not only a month to celebrate the return of spring, but it’s also the month the library community celebrates school libraries and school librarians. Executive members of the American Association of School Librarians created this annual celebration to highlight the work school librarians and school libraries do to support student learning.

Lynn Hilburn: Work still needed on Bayless-Salyer house
We have finally completed the placing of the columns on the front porch at the Bayless-Salyer House at 9th and Townsend streets. The Barry County Historical and Genealogical Society would like to thank the people, families and businesses who have contributed money to pay for the purchase and installation of the new columns.

Kyle Troutman: A case of some Mondays
The last two Mondays have been unique ones for the Troutman family, marked by worries about weather one week and enjoyment of a celestial event the next. On April 1, we were set to return home from a weekend in Florida visiting my eldest sister, who just had her first baby, miss Scarlett Ever Parker.

The Cassville girls track team ran in two meets last week, taking second place as a team in the Monett meet and fifth place in Pea Ridge. Thrower Aaliiyah Franklin showed well in both meets, taking first place in shot put and second in discus in Monett, then swapped results with a first place in discus and second in shot put in Pea Ridge.

Southwest off and running
Only five meets into the season, Southwest’s track team began to see personal records fall. Led by seniors Robert Humphries, Kameron Kelley and Juliauna Sierra, the Trojans and Lady Trojans have lofty goals this year, hoping to use its strengths in distance running to reach the state meet in May.

14 inducted into Southwest NHS
National Honor Society membership is open to sophomores, juniors and seniors with a GPA of at least 3.5 on a 4-point scale. Eligible students must also complete an application and submit a brief essay or reflection. A faculty council reviews the applications to determine if the students fulfill the qualities of service, scholarship, leadership and character. Sometimes, an interview is necessary to earn acceptance.

Garden, pool meters now available in Cassville
The City of Cassville is renewing a service to more accurately bill sanitary sewer usage for residents with substantial outdoor water usage. Residents may check out a separate water meter to attach to a hose bib or yard hydrant to record water use that does not enter the sanitary sewer system.
Barry County Sheriff’s Office calls for service and reports taken
The Barry County Sheriff's Office responded to 287 calls for service for the week of March 25-31. The CAD events created by central dispatch are the Calls for Service Barry County Officers respond to every day, included in those calls are alarms, assaults, burglaries, domestic disturbances, DWI's, stealing, harassment, medical issues, paper service, prisoner transports, suspicious persons, traffic stops and warrant service. Reports are not generated on all the calls for service. The following reports were generated from the above 287 calls:
Cassville License Office contract up for bid
The Missouri Department of Revenue is announcing the upcoming Request for Proposal (RFP) of the license office in Cassville, located at 700 Main St, Suite 1 in Cassville. Bids will start being accepted April 10, and must be submitted by April 23.
