Eagles eye 20 wins
The Purdy boys basketball team turned in a 17-win season last year, and although the team has a new look, the Eagles have set their sights on a 20-win campaign, and with plenty of returners to accomplish that goal. Heath Carmichael, Purdy boys basketball coach, said the Eagles intend to be in the mix for a conference title and in good positioning for district play.
Lady Tigers return 7 letter-winners
A spike in numbers is what new Jennifer Young, new head coach of the Exeter girls basketball team, will contribute to growth in the program and in wins. Starting the season at 1-1, with a loss to Southwest, 44-41, and win over Thomas Jefferson, 52-37, the Lady Tigers have seven letter-winners returning to the squad, and even more newcomers aiming to contribute.
Santa is on the move!
Central and southern Barry County youth will have no trouble spotting Santa Claus in coming weeks, as the jolly ole’ Saint Nick will be touring the county at 10 parades and events. The parades kick off on Saturday in Washburn, Exeter and Cassville.

Cosper tapped for middle school principal
The Cassville R-IV School District has selected Wildcat alumna and current Cassville Middle School (CMS) Assistant Principal Samantha Cosper to serve as the next principal at CMS. Cosper will assume her role as principal beginning July 1, 2024.

Bid awarded, ground broken
Ground has been broken on a $2.74 million public works facility in Cassville, partially funded by federal money and the remainder by the city’s reserves. David Brock, Cassville public works director, said the 8,400-square-foot facility, which has broken ground at the southwest corner of the city’s land at the industrial park, will include temperature controlled bays, which take up the majority of that space, as well as offices, a shower room, a kitchen and a community room that will be available to the public.

40 pros present at Career Day
Det. Doug Henry, with the Barry County Sheriff’s Office, speaks to students about law enforcement during Career Day on Nov. 21. The event for all Cassville High School students allows them to see attainable careers in their community and help guide them in future course options.

Herrin Animal Hospital in Cassville is hosting its 24th Annual Toy Drive. People may drop off a new, unwrapped toy at the Hospital at 93 Smithson Drive, or call to have a toy picked up.
Kyle Troutman: Enthusiastic thanks
This week is one in the year where everyone young and old is posed the same question, “What are you thankful for?” When I answered this question in years past, it tended to be pretty monotonous. I’m thankful to have a job, have the love of my family and to be generally surviving the world as it is.
