A new after-school program has been established at Cassville schools — eSports. Robbie Artherton, program sponsor, said the eSports program is for high school and middle school students that are interested in competitive, organized video gaming.

200 block of 11th Street remains closed

The city of Cassville sewer line replacement project continues to take on two jobs this week, with work continuing in the closed 200 block of West 11th Street and “A” line construction ongoing between East 10th and East 8th streets. David Brock, Cassville public works director, said work is expected to finish on 11th Street in a couple of days.

Dr. Flake retires from Mercy

May 31 was the last day Barry and surrounding counties have had the privilege of having Dr. William “Bill” Flake providing compassionate care to the community, a press release from Mercy Hospital said. Flake is retiring after more than 15 years of service as a general surgeon at Mercy Cassville, previously know as South Barry County.

When Tarra Jack was informed she was going to be out of a job in a week-and-a-half, she was not sure where she would go. It was divine intervention that only a couple days later, the former Pot of Coffee assistant manager heard of a building in Cassville for sale, and the Sunshine Coffeehouse plan fell into place.

Exeter builds through youth

A youthful season for the Exeter softball team saw some goals met and some goals not, but the Lady Tigers are looking ahead and resetting with the goal of returning to the district title contest. Ashley Fly, Exeter softball coach, said with only two seniors, it was a season full of ups and downs, and plenty of learning on the go.
