Fulbright recipient times two
As a result of a second Fulbright Scholarship, a Purdy native is preparing to bring some tune to Tunisia. Jason Terry, a 2005 graduate of Purdy High School and the son of Steve and Mary Terry of Purdy, will soon begin his second venture abroad as a Fulbright Scholarship recipient — this time as a piano-tuning instructor at the Arab and Mediterranean Music Center in Tunisia.
Purdy man charged with rape
A Purdy man is facing three felony charges after allegedly restraining and molesting a victim in Barry County. Jesi Owen, born 1989, of Purdy, is charged with first-degree kidnapping, first-degree rape and first-degree sodomy.

Rural Purdy native David Keeling is sitting on a trove of local history, the result of a hobby he began a decade ago. “I’m a little embarrassed about the amount of stuff I’ve collected in just ten years,” said Keeling, whose hobby has led to a veritable museum of his own making.
Man charged for chase on Hwy. 37
An Exeter man is facing a felony charge and a misdemeanor charge following an alleged high-speed chase on Highway 37 in Barry County. Cody Priest, born 1989, of Exeter, is charged with felony fleeing and misdemeanor failure to yield to an emergency vehicle.

Some 100 or more Purdy area residents enjoyed the lighting of Purdy’s Christmas tree, Friday night, in Purdy’s City Park. The event was sponsored by First State Bank, First Baptist Church of Purdy and Mareth Enterprises.

Starting with a ship
The Purdy boys basketball team is under new management this season, and the first taste of action saw the new coach’s squad win the tournament at his previous place of employment. The Eagles are off to a 3-0 start to the season, taking home the Verona Tip-Off Classic trophy with a 71-44 win over Hurley, a 63-60 win over Pleasant Hope and a 45-44 victory over Blue Eye.
