Rainey returns to Junior Olympics
Cole Rainey, 11, of Cassville, will compete in the Junior Olympics for the third year in the row. In his first two years, Rainey competed in the high jump, and this year, he switched to the 80-meter low hurdles. Rainey is a member of the Springfield track club, practicing twice a week in Springfield through the summer.
Cassville Senior Center receives $1,500 grant from CFO
Cassville Senior Center received $1,500 from the Community Foundation of the Ozarks through Hearld Ambler Fund for Senior Centers Grant Program. The grant will allow the center to repair and replace drywall and apply new paint in its restrooms.

Agriculture education impacts Cassville intermediate this summer
Eighty-five students at Cassville Intermediate participated in hands-on lessons about agriculture during enrichment programming this summer with Agriculture Education on the Move (Ag Moves). Cassville Intermediate partnered with Ag Moves to provide elementary students with 10 foundational lessons on the topics of agriculture.

The Cassville football team will rekindle Big 8 rivalries of yesteryear in its new schedule this season, which features a contest against each conference foe and one non-conference bout. Clay Weldy, Cassville football coach, said he's excited to play a Big 8 Conference slate consisting of Cassville, Aurora, East Newton, Lamar, Nevada, McDonald County, Monett, Mt.
Bird flu: Not just for the birds
Highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI), or “bird flu,” is on the move in dairy herds across the United States, and while scientists seemed baffled by the means of the H5N1 virus’ initial leap from poultry to a herd of Texas dairy cattle in March, poultry-industry insider William Wymore, of Owensville, believes its transmission can be easily explained. The storage and land-application of poultry and meat-processing sludge is facilitating the spread of bird flu, he alleges.
