A Miller resident died in a single-vehicle wreck at about 2:50 p.m. on Jan. 4 on Highway 39, approximately 10 miles south of Aurora.

40 YEARS AGO: THIS CAME TO AN END — There won’t be any more of this type of activity, at least this week. For the past couple of weeks, temperatures in the 50s, 60s and even climbing into the 70s brought out sun worshippers, golfers, gardeners, fishermen and women who enjoyed all of the above. Wednesday morning’s drop into the 30s removed all desire for outside activities, at least temporarily. These two mothers and their youngsters were enjoying the outdoors at Roaring River State Park last week.

As we wrap up the first week of 2026, there’s a pep in my step. Maybe it’s enjoying the last bit of fall weather brightening my days.
