Kyle Troutman: A fall for the books

WORKING WOMEN: His House: A place for families to heal

When Trina Colwell talks about His House Foundation — the non-profit, residential, life-transformation program she played a part in establishing in Shell Knob — her face lights up, her voice becomes passionate and her tongue takes on a will of its own. When Colwell, the broker/owner of ReMAX Lakeside Realty, moved to the Shell Knob area in 2009, she brought with her donated funds earmarked for use in the start-up of a new non-profit organization in the lakeside community where she would be making her home.

Through the Years, Oct. 25

30 YEARS AGO: HALLOWEEN DISPLAY — Ghosts swing from the trees and a scarecrow sits sentinel in the yard at 1003 Townsend in Cassville. Gary and Sara Swearingen’s Halloween decorations cause many a driver to slow down as they pass by, especially when the Swearingen’s dog Radar is found napping in the scarecrow’s lap. Mr. Scarecrow is pictured above with three of his friends perched nearby. Clockwise, beginning at the left, are: Christopher Swearingen, the Swearingen’s 4 year old son; Justin Ramsey, 5, son of Roy and Vickie Ramsey of Exeter; and Mark Hitchcock, 4, son of Deanna Hitchcock of Cassville.
Trout Tales, Oct. 25

Hunting season was open on Friday against the Cubs of Monett, and the Cassville High School student section was taking no prisoners at Friday’s Barry County Brawl. From start to finish, these rabid fans sang, danced, cheered and chanted. They broke out all the classic chants, like “You can’t do that” and “Na, na, na, na, hey, hey, hey, goodbye.” A new one has snuck in this year about playing good “D” — makes me chuckle but is absolutely borderline out of line. I think we need a fishthemed chant for the playoffs; something like, “We will, we will, flop you!” That may need some work. Can someone get Danny Roper on the job?
