Trout Tales, April 19
I left the river on Thursday to attend part of the Missouri State School Board meeting at Emory Melton Inn. They don’t put fish on the agenda, but I have an item for the board on behalf of students. Bring back sodas and energy drinks! I’ve had many students promise they’ll behave better if you give back “my precious Red Bull.” There’s also a potential for behavior improvement — at least the kids won’t be tired or asleep!

Kyle Troutman: Behind the education curtain
It’s not every day we have the state’s leaders in our backyard. That was the case on Thursday as the entire State Board of Education, the commissioner of education and multiple staffers, 21 in total, met with Cassville’s superintendent and assistant superintendent, as well as multiple school board members.

Purdy bests Exeter in district battle
Two top teams in Class 1, District 5 squared off in Exeter on Friday, giving Barry County softball fans a possible peek into the postseason. The Lady Tigers (8-3) hosted Purdy (18-6), and the Lady Eagles took home the win, 7-2.

State Board of Education visits Cassville
Twenty-one state education officials visited the Cassville school district for about an hour on Thursday, hearing about the district’s challenges and successes and discussing how they could help. The Missouri State School Board and Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) staff, led by Board President Charlie Shields and DESE Commissioner Margie Vandeven, were en route to a board meeting at Roaring River State Park.
McCrackin named to Dean’s List
Madry Mccrackin of Cassville was named to the Fall 2022 Dean's List in the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas. Mccrackin joins nearly 2,500 additional Fulbright College students on the Fall 2022 Dean's List.

Miller earns Premier Distinction
The National Speech and Debate Association has announced that Cassville High School senior, Kalia Miller, has earned Premier Distinction recognition. Premier Distinction is the highest honor in the National Speech and Debate Association Honor Society (NSDA).

State Board of Education meets at Roaring River
The Missouri State Board of Education held its regular April meeting at the Emory Melton Inn and Conference Center at Roaring River State Park.

Southwest inducts 13 into National Honor Society
The Southwest High School Chapter of the National Honor Society (NHS) inducted 13 new members and installed new officers at a ceremony on April 12. The new members are: Abbie Clark, Addison Cotton, Riley Flippo, Kayla Hendrix, Addison Keates, Piper King, Kelsee Merritt, Saige Miller, Tristan Morgan, Rebecca Swanepoel, Montana Skelton, Kaleigh Tull and Rachel Willer.
