Purdy schools planning improvements
Purdy schools are reviewing the state’s assessment of the district and looking at ways to improve school performance. The state released its annual performance review earlier this month.

April 4, 1973 — Barry County Sales Tax Indicates Business High Although up-to-date figures are not available, sales tax collections in Barry County indicate a steady growth in the sales capacity of the trade territory doing business with merchants of the county. Figures obtained from the Missouri Department of Revenue, sales tax division indicate the following: In 1966 total sales tax coll-the comparison for 1967 was $642,000; for 1968 the figure was $645,000 and in 1969 the total was $738,648.

Flooding ongoing across Barry County
Portions of Barry County have seen more than 6 inches of rainfall since about 4 p.m. on Thursday, leading to extensive road flooding, but so far sparing most buildings. David Compton, Barry County Emergency Management director, said the central area of the county, over Mark Twain National Forest and north of Shell Knob, received the most rainfall.
Kyle Troutman: Vote ‘yes’ on proposed use tax
For the second time in as many years, Cassville voters who go to the ballot box on April 4 will see the same question concerning a local use tax. The proposal was made in all seven incorporated Barry County cities in April 2022, but the measure only passed in three, Seligman, Exeter and Wheaton.

Wildcats return state relay team, high jumper
The Cassville boys track team can run more than three deep across the track this season, with 29 total members aiming to qualify more athletes to state than in 2022. Clay Weldy, Cassville boys track coach, said distance running and the high jump will be the Wildcats’ strongest events, but there is room throughout the program for success.

$9 million in bonds to fund PAC, security upgrades
The Cassville school district is moving forward with the plan to build a performing arts center, asking voters on April 4 to approve the P.A.W.S. initiative for $9 million in bonds.

Through the years, March 22
;Barry County Clerk, Rex Stumpff and his staff, Patricia Evans, election deputy, pictured on the left above and Pauline Hickman on the right have been working hard to have everything in order for the county election Tuesday, April 5. With 26 road districts, 19 municipals, school and other districts all balloting this spring, they were faced with a big job, but it appears everything is now ready for the 14,777 registered voter of the county at the 15 polling places. Stumpff says that absentee ballots are now available at his office.
