New owners take over Sports World
Mitch and Amanda Sorensen cut the ribbon as the new owner of Sports World. Delinquent tax sale upcoming The office of Barry County Collector Skyler Bowman is preparing for the annual Barry County Real Estate Delinquent Tax Sale. Missouri law requires that land with three years of delinquent taxes sell on the fourth Monday of August each year.
Purdy School District approves raises for nearly half of staff
Purdy schools have approved raises for nearly half of the school staff. Following a pay scale increase for teachers last year, School Superintendent Travis Graham said he and the school board wanted to ensure that the school’s classified staff, which includes non-teaching positions like maintenance, janitorial and paraprofessionals, receive a competitive wage from the district. “We live in very volatile times and we believe it is good to pay a fair wage and we had the financial availability,” Graham said.

Roaring River State Park, the most-visited state park in Missouri, is not slowing on attendance any time soon, and improvements over the last year combined with projects ahead will provide more opportunity for all campers, hikers and outdoors lovers.
Shakin’ with the students
Shakin’ in the Shell has been a huge community event for many years, and this year, there will be an even sweeter touch. Kellie Davis, Shell Knob Chamber of Commerce director, said she had the idea to have students design the T-shirt for this year.
18 indicted for meth conspiracy
Eighteen defendants, including three bi-county residents, have been indicted by a federal grand jury for their alleged roles in a conspiracy to distribute large amounts of methamphetamine in southwest Missouri after law enforcement officers seized approximately 29 pounds of methamphetamine, approximately $57,000 and firearms.
