Lady Trojans tout defense, chemistry
With a new basketball season starting on Nov. 22, Shawn Johnson, Southwest girls basketball coach, said his squad is focused on steady growth and team-minded play.
Pink Out raises $3K at Southwest
Southwest High School recently held its 16th annual Pink Out event and raised $3,000 for two students battling ailments. The students, Payton Neukam, a high schooler suffering from bone cancer, and Haven Holmes, a middle schooler battling leukemia, were the recipients. A bake sale, loose change drive, a serving contest, pass the hat and general donations throughout the district all helped raise funds. The annual event is organized by Coaches Mandy Henry and Steve Voyak and the Lady Trojans.
Southwest volleyballers earn 10th victory on season
Led by Seniors Marissa Freeman, Emma Outhouse and Addison Park, the Southwest volleyball team picked up wins over Exeter and Purdy last week to reach the 10-win plateau.
Southwest Volleyball to Host Pink Out, Senior Night
The Southwest High School volleyball team has three important dates to celebrate in October. On Oct. 9, Purdy will visit the Lady Trojans for Pink Out 2025. This is the 16th consecutive year the school has hosted a breast cancer awareness event. The team has theme days planned all week and fundraisers for two students, Payton Neukam and Haven Holmes. There will be a bake sale, coin collection, 50/50 raffle and serving contests to raise money.

Southwest spikers 3rd at Verona Volleyball Invitational
The Southwest volleyball team finished third in the 10-team Verona Tournament Saturday. The Lady Trojans defeated Golden City, Gloria Deo Academy and tied Thomas Jefferson before losing to Lockwood and Galena, who played for the championship.

Lady Trojans implement new alignment
Coming off a 6-win season, the Southwest volleyball team is bringing an energy and good attitude into a new year where some changes — especially defensively — are required.
5 new teachers start at Southwest
The Southwest school district has added five new teachers for 2025-2026. They are: Tyler Wallace, middle school math and assistant high school softball coach; Cassie Hoadley, middle school social studies; Anna Church, kindergarten; Danielle Yoho, 1st grade; and Matt Tripp, RootED Coordinator and middle school baseball coach.
