Trout Tales, Oct. 25

Hunting season was open on Friday against the Cubs of Monett, and the Cassville High School student section was taking no prisoners at Friday’s Barry County Brawl. From start to finish, these rabid fans sang, danced, cheered and chanted. They broke out all the classic chants, like “You can’t do that” and “Na, na, na, na, hey, hey, hey, goodbye.” A new one has snuck in this year about playing good “D” — makes me chuckle but is absolutely borderline out of line. I think we need a fishthemed chant for the playoffs; something like, “We will, we will, flop you!” That may need some work. Can someone get Danny Roper on the job?
Kyle Troutman: A fall for the books

Prep sports teams have an ebb and flow, and dynasties are exceedingly rare — unless you live in Lamar. Each sports season, schools typically see varying degrees of success.
WORKING WOMEN: His House: A place for families to heal

When Trina Colwell talks about His House Foundation — the non-profit, residential, life-transformation program she played a part in establishing in Shell Knob — her face lights up, her voice becomes passionate and her tongue takes on a will of its own. When Colwell, the broker/owner of ReMAX Lakeside Realty, moved to the Shell Knob area in 2009, she brought with her donated funds earmarked for use in the start-up of a new non-profit organization in the lakeside community where she would be making her home.
Cassville FBLA ‘Petals it Forward’

Lorelie Vanderhoef, Cassville FBLA member, presents flowers to Debbie Meltabarger at Whitley’s Pharmacy on Oct. 18. Cassville FBLA Officers had the opportunity to spread some sunshine around local Cassville businesses in the national flower campaign called “Petal it Forward.” Flower company Bloomingmore.com supplied 160 large prepackaged sunflowers for students to give away with the opportunity of the recipient to keep some and then “Petal some forward.” The marketing campaign brought many smiles to some deserving faces.
3 for Avery

A long course with difficult pin positions and fast greens presented challenges for the Cassville girls golf team at Class 3 Girls Golf State on Oct. 16-17, but that did not stop senior Avery Chappell from medaling for the third year in a row, and with her best overall finish.

Events kick off on Friday in Cassville, with the Cassville Health Center for Rehab and Healthcare, located at 1300 county Farm Road in Cassville, will host a trunk-or-treat on Friday from 4-6 p.m.
TroutMom Says: Grateful for the lives they’ve saved

I have never personally been affected by a breast cancer diagnosis; not my mother, grandmothers, or my aunts. Something I had always heard was that breast cancer is genetic, but according to the National Breast Cancer Society, only about 10 percent of breast cancer diagnosis come with a family history.
