Dry-cured bacon workshop coming in September
The Barry County University of Missouri Extension is holding a dry cured bacon (pork belly) workshop for youth and adults. Before refrigeration, many Missourians cured hams and pork bellies as a method of preserving food.

Sara Jane (Poetker) Schad, 49, of Purdy, Missouri was called home to Heaven after suffering a short illness. She was born in Kansas City, Missouri on April 1, 1975; the daughter of Larry and Barbara (Talken) Poetker and birth mother Julie Poe. She was united in marriage on October 9, 1999 at the Cathedral of St. Joseph in Jefferson City, Missouri to Gary Schad; he survives.
Doggies dip at YMCA’s swim day

Brought to the Cassville Aquatic Center’s Doggie Swim Day Saturday by owner Tammy Ennis, of Exeter, Gunner lived up to his breed by retrieving a duck in the pool over and over again. The Cassville Area YMCA, which operates the pool owned by the city, hosts a doggie swim day every year as the last event before winterization.

A Texas woman died on Saturday in a wreck at 4:12 p.m. on Stallion Bluff Road, one mile northwest of Shell Knob.

‘Gentle Giant’ made mini; slabs severed for memorial

AJ Hunter uses a skid steer to move a portion of the trunk of the ‘Gentle Giant’ tree at the Bayless/Salyer House, which was felled during a windstorm in Cassville on May 26. Tree Tech Tree Service donated its services to remove the massive pine tree, which was about 100 years old and the tallest in Cassville for a period of time. The remains of the pine were loaded into a trailer and taken to the city of Cassville’s storm vegetation debris drop-off point east of the Cassville Municipal Airport. Slabs from part of the trunk were also cut off to use later in a memorial at the house.
