Donald Dale “Don” Horton
Donald Dale “Don” Horton, 86, of Seligman, Mo., passed away Saturday, July 6, 2024, at Concordia Nursing and Rehab in Bella Vista, Ark. He was born September 9, 1937, in Duke, Mo., the son of Willie Lee and Effie Mae (Vaughn) Horton, who preceded him in death.

Shore hoops camps return to Cassville
Former Cassville basketball coach Chris Shore recently hosted a pair of basketball camps for girls an boys in grades 1-8 at the Family Life Center in Cassville.
Terry Family Fireworks show lights up Purdy
According to the Purdy Police Department, on July 3, one of the pyrotechnicians setting off the fireworks display at the Terry Family Fireworks Show in Purdy was seriously injured when the final mortar shell misfired, striking him in the shoulder. The technician was conscious and alert at the scene and was transported by ground ambulance to a trauma center in Springfield.

102 attend annual Youth Tour in D.C.
One hundred and two high school students participated in Missouri's 61st annual Missouri Electric Youth Tour to Washington, D.C., from June 14-20. Local delegates included Simon Gates and Bodee Rose from Cassville, and Saige Miller from Washburn, all sponsored by Barry Electric Cooperative.
OACAC program eligibility increased to 200% of poverty level
As of July 1, the Ozarks Area Community Action Corporation (OACAC) Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) Program can now serve households with an income up to 200% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL). The previous allowable FPL for CSBG was 125%.

Through the Years, July 10
30 YEARS AGO: FIREWORKS SHOW FINALE — So bright was the Shell Knob fireworks finale, film didn’t separate the display, but obviously provided a lighting of the Central Crossing Bridge over Table Rock at right. Special firings of the Shell Knob C of C program boats ands spectators along the way who yelled, honked horns and flashed lights as their method of approving the show.

Haven of the Ozarks Pet of the Week
Aledo is one of 8 pups found dumped on the road. He is a black lab mix born on April 17. These pups deserve a great family. They will be fixed, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped and ready to go home with a new owner on July 17.
