50 years ago May 24, 1972 Silver Leaf Benefit Club met this week to install new officers. Those installed were Wanda Peterson, president; Mary Francis Baker, vice president; Ida Blalack, secretary; and Louise Fisher, treasurer; and Sue Mitchell, corresponding secretary.

2 Southwest runners sign with Crowder College
Southwest seniors Christian Long and Caden Uthe have signed to run cross country and track at Crowder College in Neosho. The college is starting the program under the direction of Coach Jake Holt, a graduate of Southwest. Long and Uthe are both All- State in cross country and State qualifiers in track. Middle schoolers No. 2 in Big 8
The Middle School Big 8 Championship Tournament was held in Monett on April 30. Cassville entered the tournament as the No. 2 seed. Cassville Defeated No. 7 seeded Hollister, 12-0, in 3 innings. Then, Cassville battled 3-seed McDonald County to a 4-2 victory in the semifinals. The Championship game featured Cassville against No. 1 seed Marshfield. The Wildcats fell 4-0 and finished 2nd in the Big 8 Conference. The team finished the season 11-4. The 8th grade girls finished their middle school careers at 23-6 with two Big 8 Championship appearances and one title. Contributed photo
Southwest track team sending six to state
The Southwest High School boys track team prides itself on its relays, and the Trojans will get to show off three of their squads this weekend at the Class 2 Track and Field Championships in Jefferson City Friday and Saturday.
Dickinson, Moore win Rotary awards
Bradan Dickinson and Annie Moore were the recipients of this year’s Rotary MVP awards for boys and girls track and field. The pair scored the most points out of any other individuals on their teams this season. Contributed photos
Cassville track moves on
It was a record day for the Cassville boys and girls track teams, especially for Bradan Dickinson. At the district meet over the weekend, Dickinson threw 16.2 meters for a new school record and first place in the district.

Road district to meet The McDonald Special Road District will have its regular monthly business meeting on May 30 at the McDowell Church beginning at 6 p.m. If anyone wants to get on the agenda to question the road commissioners, they may call 417-847-2808.
Camp Smokey bus schedule released
Organizers of the 57th annual Barry County Youth Camp, taking place at Camp Smokey at Roaring River State Park, have released the bus schedule to pick campers up in Monett, Purdy and Cassville. This year’s theme is “Barnyard Buddies.” Buses will pick Monett campers up at 8:30 a.m.
Mercy Cassville addresses mental health
May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and Mercy Hospital Cassville’s Senior Life Solutions program is spreading awareness about challenges than can exist in receiving mental health help in rural areas.
