Kaley Thigpen: Purdy School Board Election Questionnaire

Age: 36

Current Occupation: Business Consultant with Huron

Past Experience: Previous Monett Chamber Board Member and I have been actively involved in the Purdy community since moving here three years ago with my husband, Zach, and our three boys, Thierry, Philip, and Harvey. Our two older boys attend Purdy schools, and our youngest will start next year.

During our time here, I have served the school community in several ways, including serving as President and Vice President of the Purdy PTSO. I have also worked as a substitute teacher in the district, volunteered with the junior high and high school volleyball programs, and helped support summer baseball and softball programs. These experiences have given me a well-rounded perspective of our schools from the viewpoint of parents, students, teachers, and staff.

Education: Master’s Degree in Business from Pittsburg State University

1. Why do you want to win this position?

I am running for the Purdy School Board because I care deeply about the future of our schools and the students they serve, including my own children. Growing up in a small town like Stockton, Missouri, I understand how important schools are to the identity and strength of a community. I want to help protect those strong small-town roots while also ensuring our district continues to grow, improve, and prepare students for the future. My goal is simple: to serve our students, teachers, and community with transparency, good judgment, and a genuine desire to help Purdy succeed.

2. If elected, what is your number one goal on the school board?

My number one goal is to support an environment where students, teachers, and staff have the tools and support they need to succeed. That means making thoughtful decisions, listening to the community, and ensuring the district operates in a transparent and responsible way that always keeps students at the center of every decision.

3. What areas of the school district do you think need improvement?

Like any district, there are always opportunities to improve communication, transparency, and community engagement. I believe it is important for families to understand what is happening in the district and feel confident their voices are heard. I also want to focus on supporting teachers and staff so they can continue providing the high-quality education Purdy students deserve.

4. What capital projects do you believe the district should pursue?

Capital projects should always be approached carefully and responsibly. My priority would be evaluating facility needs and ensuring our buildings and resources support a safe and effective learning environment for students and teachers. Any major project should be considered with long-term planning, fiscal responsibility, and community input.

5. What do you feel is most important for raising the quality of education provided by Wheaton schools?

The most important factor in the quality of education is strong support for teachers and staff. When educators feel supported, respected, and equipped with the right resources, students benefit. Additionally, maintaining high expectations for students while fostering a positive school culture and strong partnerships with families helps create an environment where students can truly thrive.
