SKITS putting on ‘Gladys In Wonderland’

The Shell Knob in the Spotlight (SKITS) community theater players are having a ball, rehearsing diligently as they develop their respective characters for the fall comedy “Gladys in Wonderland.”

The production will be presented at the Central Community United Methodist Church in Shell Knob Nov. 13-16.

This riotous play revolves around 87-year-old Gladys Overmeyer, a loveable, aging woman who just seemingly drifts through life doing such things as binging on donuts, scouring the obituaries and just loving life without setting any specific course or direction.

Now that her days are numbered, she is about to be greeted by Death himself, a cheerful, delightful grim reaper by the name of Mort, who is wanting to whisk her into the unknown, but is startled to discover just how stubborn Gladys is to meet her destiny.

Laughter enters center stage and kicks into high gear as Mort introduces a parade of totally obnoxious friends and well-meaning relatives who nitpick and whine in the name of helping and getting Gladys to understand her shortcomings in life, so they think.

And, if this is not sufficient evidence to convince her to go to the afterlife, a stint at the nursing home life from an inmate’s point of view may finally convince her it’s time to go.

This hilarious and thought-provoking play features the talents of Anne Gables, Andrew St. Pierre, Craig Burford, Sue Klassen, Lovella Hayden, Marianne Opp, Ellie Keeton, Lori Yeary and Emmy Bishop, and it is directed by Kade Keeton.
