Cassville Arts Council play rehearsal upcoming
Come be a hero (or a god). Join the Cassville Arts Council in bringing “The Lightning Thief – The Percy Jackson Musical” to life. First rehearsal is June 16 at 6:30 p.m. at the Sho-Me Plaza, located at 404 State Hwy. 248 in Cassville. Rehearsals continue Mondays through Thursdays from 6:30- 9 p.m. Not everyone will be at every rehearsal. Performances are Aug. 21-24 at the Crowder College Cassville Community Building. Assignment of specific parts will be done after a few rehearsals. Everyone who wants to participate is welcome. What about auditions? The Council has found that working with the cast for a few rehearsals gives them a better idea of where people best fit. People become more familiar with the script and music. It reduces stress and gives people their best opportunity to shine. What if a person only interested in certain parts? If willing to join for a few rehearsals, participants can look at them like callbacks. “Who knows, maybe you will decide to stay even if you don’t get the part you were looking for,” a Council release said. “Otherwise, contact us Io work something out that is more like a traditional audition.” For more information, people may contact Trent Oliphant at cassvillearts@gmail.com.
Porch sale on Friday, Saturday
The Barry County Geological and Historical Society will host a Garage/Porch Sale on Friday, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m.. to 2 p.m., at the Bayless/Salyer House, located at 9th and Townsend in Cassville. Funds aim to provide the upkeep for the old house. There will be furniture (2 couches), clothes and historical items.
Cassville Class of 2020 records to be purged
Cassville High School will be purging the cumulative school records for the graduating class of 2020. Graduates who would like to have their records must pick them up in person at Cassville High School between 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. for the 2025-2026 school year. If the 2020 graduate is unable to pick them up in person and would like someone to do it for them, a signed request is required before they can be released.
Purdy Road District to meet
The Purdy Special Road District will meet at 4 p.m. on Monday at the Purdy District Road Barn, located at 200 S. 9th St. (Farm Road 1085). Patrons wishing to address the commissioners should contact the Secretary at 417-442-7328 by 4 p.m. Friday to be placed on the agenda and will be given a maximum of 10 minutes to speak.
Waste Management District meeting
The Southwest Missouri Waste Management District N will hold its Executive Board Meeting at 11:50 a.m. on Tuesday at the Monett Barry/Lawrence Public Library in Monett. This meeting is open to the public. A teleconference number will also be available for this meeting, and people may contact the district office at 417-236-9012 or 417-342-6306 prior to the day of the meeting for the call-in number and passcode.
Corsicana Road District meeting Tuesday
The Corsicana Special Road District will meet in regular session on Tuesday at 7 p.m., at the home of Garry and Pam Bartkoski, located at 5086 Farm Road 2057 in Monett. The public is welcome to attend.

City-Wide Clean-Up June 9-13
The Cassville City-Wide Clean-Up will be held the week of June 9-13. Cards, Cassville’s trash service provider, will pick up Clean-Up materials on residents’ regular trash days. Bulk items and household trash will be accepted. Items not accepted include hazardous waste, electronics, paint, tires and anything containing oil or gasoline. Cassville Farmer’s Market open on Saturdays
The Cassville Farmers Market is open weekly on Saturdays on the Barry County Courthouse Square, from 8 a.m. to noon. Vendors are offering eggs, vegetables, hand-made crafts, baked goods and more. Those interested in becoming a vendor may contact Chad Sprinkle at 417-846-3539.
Public Meeting at Roaring River State Park
The public is invited to a town hall-style meeting for Roaring River and Big Sugar Creek state parks on Thursday at 6 p.m. Representatives from Missouri State Parks will be on hand to provide information about these parks and answer questions. The public is encouraged to share comments about the parks and their operations. The meeting will be held at the Riverview Room of the Emory Melton Inn at Roaring River State Park, located at 12716 Farm Road 2239 in Cassville.
Local Christian author hosting book signing
Trish Charleston, local Christian author, will host an Author Reading and Book Signing — for the book “Stay Hooked: Finding Peace in the Journey” — on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Cassville Branch Library. Books will be available for purchase for $20 each, and Charleston has three others available on Amazon. In “Stay Hooked,” Charleston, a rancher, devoted wife and mom, and rodeo enthusiast, shares how she holds tight to the life God has called her to, even when the trail gets rocky. Whether she’s mending fences on the ranch or cheering on her daughter in the competitive world of professional rodeo, Charleston has learned that staying committed to a calling takes grit, grace and a little cowboy wisdom.
Democratic Central Committee to meet
The Barry County Democratic Central Committee will meet on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Adelitas Mexican Restaurant, located at 1304 Old Exeter Road. Everyone is responsible for their own meals.
Old Church Gallery Farmers’ Market now open
The Old Church Gallery Farmers’ Market runs every Thursday from 8-11 a.m., offering farm fresh produce, eggs, jellies, relishes, baked goods, cut flowers, handmade crafts and more. Wheaton Depot Museum open

Cassville Senior Center hosting monthly dances
The Cassville Senior Center hosts a dance and potluck dinner with live music on the first Friday of every month. The doors open at 5:30 p.m., and the live music and dance is from 7-10 p.m. Admission is $10 and the Senior Center is located at 1111 Fair St. in Cassville. All ages are welcome, and there is no cost for children 18-and-under. There will be door prizes, refreshments, a 50-50 raffle and a potluck dinner at 8 p.m., and attendees are welcome to bring a dish. All proceeds go to the Senior Center.
Lessons offered before Seligman’s Saturday dances
The Seligman Chamber of Commerce country dances at the Seligman Chamber Event Center are every Saturday from 7-10 p.m. No alcohol is allowed. Admission is $10 per person, and 18-and-under are free. There is a potluck, 50-50 drawing and door prizes. Free dance lessons will also be given from 5-6 p.m. For more information, people may call 479-903-3640.
Seligman Bingo Night on first Tuesday of month
A Bingo Night will be held the first Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. at the Seligman Chamber Event Center, located on Highway 37 north of the city. If at least 50 people attend, two train tickets will be raffled. In the case of bad weather, bingo will be postponed. The building is handicap accessible, and all ages are invited. Bingo cards are $1 per play, and there is no limit on plays. A variety of prizes, excluding cash, will be awarded. Sodas and water are available for $1 each. OATS rides available in Barry County
OATS Transit offers regular transportation services for the rural general public of any age, seniors, and individuals with disabilities. People may call the local OATS Transit office at 417-887-9272 or 800-770-6287 to schedule a ride or find out about services in the Barry County area. People may also visit the OATS website at oatstransit.org to view local schedules under “Bus Schedules,” then click on the county of service. OATS Transit is hiring drivers statewide to continue serving riders. Openings are listed on the OATS website. OATS offices will be closed and regular service will not be operating on May 26 in observance of Memorial Day.
