Supplies needed for back-to-school fair (07/12/07)
The Barry County OACAC Neighborhood Center is now accepting donations for its 2007 School Readiness Fair, which will be held at the Family Life Center in Cassville on Aug. 3. "Our goal this year is to serve 250 kids," said Gail Jenkins, Barry County OACAC director. "Through the fair we try to make sure every child is able to start school with a backpack and school supplies, which will help them begin the year on a positive note."...
Operational date set for E-911 (07/12/07)
Barry County's E-911 system will be tested on Sept. 18 and could be on-line and operational by Oct. 2, said Pat Leighter, Barry County E-911 Emergency Services Board director. Over 4,000 Barry County residents journeyed to Wheaton to help the town celebrate its 100th birthday this weekend. The Wheaton Centennial Celebration was held in the city park on July 5, 6, 7 and 8. Dear Editor: On Wednesday, July 27, 2007, at the Barry County Courthouse, a short meeting with Doyle Childers, director of the Department of Natural Resources, and David Woolery, ombudsman, was "very interesting." Again, we found out that the DNR has little or no control over Missouri's natural resources. Most of the response from Mr. Childers, when questioned, was "I'll look into it," or "that doesn't fall within DNR guidelines."...
