An electrical fire at the Promised Land Safari Park in Eagle Rock resulted in the loss of the structure last week.
Pamela Stillwell, assistant fire chief at the Eagle Rock-Golden-Mano Fire Department, said at 8:24 p.m. on Thursday, crews were dispatched to a structure fire at the primate house of the Promised Land Safari Park.
Upon arrival, the structure was fully engulfed, and crews were able to extinguish the blaze with their initial attack.
Stillwell said the fire is believed to have started in an electrical panel in the warm room of the exhibit, quickly spreading through the walls and destroying the entire structure.
Stillwell said staff of the Park had been working prior to arrival of emergency services to get the primates out of the building.
A Facebook post on the Park’s page said staff responded at record speed and were able to recover one animal that was put under veterinary care.
A GoFundMe page has been established to help the Park rebuild the primate house, and people may donate by visiting https://tinyurl.com/9neuc4ac. As of Monday, the campaign had raised $1,875 of its $20,000 goal.
Attempts to contact Promised Land Safari Park owners were not successful as of presstime.
