Cassville responds to discipline concerns
In response to May surveys of staff, students and parents, the Cassville school district has taken multiple actions aimed at improving the effectiveness of discipline. Merlyn Johnson, Cassville superintendent, said actions taken by the district include no longer allowing students cell phone use during the school day, offering corporal punishment on an opt-in only basis, and starting the Success Academy to help struggling students graduate.
Colleagues remember late sheriff
Colleagues and friends of former Barry County sheriff Gary Davis remember the 30-year law enforcement professional as a knowledgeable and dedicated individual eager to help. Davis, 74, died at his home on Thursday.
New field house begets better scheduling
Wheaton putting $504K into 120x120 building BY JORDAN TROUTMAN The Wheaton school district has been busy with relating to the construction of the new tornado shelter, and now the new field house project is ramping up. Trish Wilson, Wheaton superintendent, said the dirtwork will start in the next couple of weeks.
Local park ranger earns state award
Corporal Steve Jabben, a park ranger with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources’ Division of Missouri State Parks, has been selected as the State of Missouri and department Team Member of the Month for July 2022. Jabben was selected for his service to the department and for his lifesaving efforts during two incidents at Roaring River State Park.
Playgrounds delayed by supply chain
Cassville students started classes on Tuesday, and one thing will look different for primary and intermediate students in the first semester – recess. Merlyn Johnson, Cassville superintendent, said due to supply chain issues, the playground renovations expected to be completed by September have been delayed.
SKITS hosting fall play auditions
Auditions will be held for the SKITS community theater fall play. “Murder in the House of Horrors,” on Saturday at 10 a.m.
