UTV struck by tree northwest of Shell Knob

A Texas woman died on Saturday in a wreck at 4:12 p.m. on Stallion Bluff Road, one mile northwest of Shell Knob.

According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report, Douglas Holley, 80, of Shell Knob, was driving a 2021 Asis 500 side-by-side northbound when a tree fell on the vehicle while it was in motion.

Holley suffered moderate injuries and was transported to Mercy Hospital in Cassville. A passenger in the vehicle, Penny Hons, 80, of Richmond, Texas, was pronounced dead on the scene at 5:05 p.m. by Barry County Coroner Gary Swearingen. She was transported to Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville.

Both occupants were wearing safety devices, and the vehicle was totaled.
