The Barry County Community Garden hosted 20 youth in the Cassville High School Jobs for America’s Graduates program. Master Gardener Skip Easter gave a demonstration on fall tree planting and an overview of what a forester does as a job. After that, the students planted four native redbud trees, donated to the garden by Sara Palmquist, with the Master Gardeners of Barry County. The students also helped Joanne Brown clean up beds and plant winter cover crop seeds. “They worked really hard, and I was so proud of how respectful and attentive they were during the demonstration,” said Christina Leach, JAG instructor. “Christina is so passionate about helping the kids see the importance of community service and what a difference just a little bit of time can make to help others,” said Melissa Hamilton, BCCG manager.
