Libraries hosting food drive this week

The Barry-Lawrence Regional Library System is hosting a food drive, which began on Monday and continues through Sunday. The drive is for food, essentials and pet food. People may donate at any of the nine branches, including Cassville, Eagle Rock and Shell Knob.

Sleep in Heavenly Peace build on Saturday

The Exeter Chapter of Sleep In Heavenly Peace will host its annual national Bunks Across America build on Saturday at First Christian Church in Cassville. The build begins at 9 a.m. and continues until finished, usually by noon. Volunteers are needed. People may stay for the whole build or just come for an hour. No experience or tools are needed, and volunteers should sign in when they arrive. The Chapter is also seeking new bedding for children, especially for boys, size twin and twin XL. Only new sheet sets, comforters/blankets, or ‘Bed-in-a-Bag’ sets will be accepted. People may drop off at the build site on Saturday morning. 4-H Carnival coming up

The Barry County 4-H Carnival will be held on Oct. 11 from 2-8 p.m. (or until food and prizes are gone) at the Sho-Me Plaza Suite 10 on Highway 248 in Cassville. Ticket prices are 50 cents each, or $20 for unlimited games. All games cost one ticket, and some cost two. A silent auction will run until 6:30 p.m. Food and drinks range from 75 cents to $3 and include: hot dog, chips, popcorn, nachos, bowl of chili, chili dog, nachos with chili, water, tea and lemonade. All proceeds benefit Barry County 4-H members.

Community Supporter Appreciation Day set

The Barry County Genealogical and Historical Society will host a Community Supporter Appreciation Day on Sept. 20 from noon to 4 p.m. at the Bayless/Salyer House, located at 804 Townsend St. in Cassville. The event will celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Society, 25th anniversary of the Society’s purchase of the house, and the 2024-2025 restoration of columns, roof and other repairs.

Benefit Live Auction & Chili Dinner on Sept. 20

A Benefit Live Auction & Chili Dinner will be held on Sept. 20 at the Crowder College Community Building in Cassville, with proceeds benefitting Haven Holmes and family. The event begins at 5 p.m. with dinner, ,and a live auction will start at 6 p.m. A chili dinner with drink and dessert is $10 per plate. There will be a 50/50 drawing and rifle raffles. Raffle tickets are $10 per ticket (buy 5 and get one free), with pink tickets for a Mossberg pump-action 12-gauge, blue tickets for a Cricket .22 youth rifle with scope and yellow tickets for a Wildcat .22 True Timber Strata. Winners must pass a background check and pick up prizes from AW Outdoors. A Marlin .357 Stainsteel Level will be in the live auction. Holmes is a 10-year-old Southwest student recently diagnosed with Leukemia. He receives treatments at St. Jude’s in Memphis, continuing for the next 2.5 years. All proceeds from the benefit will go to Holmes’ family.

Capps Creek Road District to meet

The Capps Creek Special Road District will meet in regular session on Thursday at noon at the home of Garry and Pam Bartkoski, located at 5086 Farm Road 2057 in Monett. The public is welcome to attend.

LEGO Club meeting in Eagle Rock

The Eagle Rock Lego Club will meet on Sept. 20 at 10 a.m. at the Eagle Rock Community Center. Join for a fun time of free play and building with Ms. Kara Fletcher.

Softball Tournament fundraiser coming Oct. 18

A Softball Tournament Fundraiser will be held on Oct. 18 at the Wheaton Ball Fields, beginning at 10 a.m., with proceeds benefitting Glenda Ball, a retired Wheaton elementary teacher diagnosed in 2001 with Diffuse Large Cell Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma, a blood cancer. Softball teams of 10-15 people may register by Oct. 16, with a $250 registration fee turned in at Wheaton City Hall. There will also be a home run derby at $10 per entry. Zone 4 hosting Weekend events

Zone 4 Mini Golf & More, located at 16007 Hwy. 76 in Cassville, will host numerous weekend events in September. They include: Bingo on the patio at 6 p.m. on Sept. 13, the Mini Masters Golf Tournament at 9 a.m. on Sept. 20, the CHS Jazz Band on stage at 6 p.m. on Sept. 20, a Cornhole Tournament on the patio at 3 p.m. Sept. 21, a Fall Flea Market from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sept. 27, and Trivia on the patio at 6 p.m. on Sept. 27.

Cassville Branch Library events upcoming

The Cassville Branch Library will host the following events this week: Thursday, Steam Club at 3:30 p.m.; Friday, CHS Home Kick Off from 3:30-5:30 p.m.; and Tuesday, Tot Time at 9:30 a.m., Storytime at 10 a.m. and Medicare 101 at 1 p.m.

Medicare 101 Educational Event at library

The Cassville Branch Library, in partnership with Mid America Insurance Solutions LLC, will host a Medicare 101 Educational Event on Tuesday from 2-3 p.m. at the library, located at 301 W. 17th St. in Cassville. Cassville Farmers’ Market open on Saturdays

The Cassville Farmers Market is open weekly on Saturdays on the Barry County Courthouse Square, from 8 a.m. to noon. Vendors are offering eggs, vegetables, hand-made crafts, baked goods and more. Those interested in becoming a vendor may contact Chad Sprinkle at 417-846-3539.

Old Church Gallery Farmers’ Market open

The Old Church Gallery Farmers’ Market runs every Thursday from 8-11 a.m., offering farm fresh produce, eggs, jellies, relishes, baked goods, cut flowers, handmade crafts and more. The selection varies every week, so come early for the best choice. Old Church Gallery is located on Farm Road 1240 in Shell Knob and can be reached at 417-858-2510.

Wheaton Depot Museum open

The Wheaton Depot Museum is open from 1-5 p.m. on Sundays for individuals to come in and see exhibits. For more information, people may call 417-846-3146.

Cassville First Friday Dance & Food every month

Cassville First Friday Dance & Food is a community event held on the first Friday of every month at 1111 Fair St. in Cassville. It is open to all ages. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and the live music and dance is from 7-10 p.m. There is line dance as well. Admission is $10. All ages are welcome, and there is no cost for children 18-and-under. There will be door prizes, refreshments, a 50-50 raffle and a potluck dinner at 7:30 p.m., and attendees are welcome to bring a dish. All proceeds go to the Center.

Lessons offered before Seligman’s Saturday dances

The Seligman Chamber of Commerce country dances at the Seligman Chamber Event Center are every Saturday from 7-10 p.m. No alcohol is allowed. Admission is $10 per person, and 18-and-under are free. There is a potluck, 50-50 drawing and door prizes. Free dance lessons will also be given from 5-6 p.m. For more information, people may call 479-903-3640.
