Cassville schools hosting community viewing
The Cassville school district will host a Community Viewing Event on March 5 at 6 p.m. at the FEMA Event Center, showing the documentary “Childhood 2.0: The Living Experiment.” The documentary aims to educate parents, guardians and community members about the inherent challenges and dangers of the digital world. “Anybody that is raising a child is invited to attend this special screening of an impactful documentary shedding light on the dangers of social media and technology,” a Cassville press release said. Viewer discretion is advised, as the documentary contains sensitive and explicit content. Childcare will be available (must RSVP). The documentary may be viewed at www.childhood2movie.com, and a link to childcare signup is http://tinyurl.com/2nr56wb9. “Please note that this event is not recommended for anyone under the age of 13 due to the mature nature of the film,” Cassville’s release said. “Our preference is that this event is for adults only. However, if parents choose to watch the documentary with their child, we recommend doing so in a home setting where they can have open conversations as the movie is played.”
Youth Tour, CYCLE accepting applications
Barry Electric Cooperative is looking for student leaders to represent the co-op at a leadership conference in Washington, D.C. During this trip of a lifetime, students will have the opportunity to see national landmarks, monuments and places ingrained in American culture. There will be two local high school juniors selected, joining over 100 fellow Missouri students on the trip from June 14-20. Another opportunity, the Cooperative Youth Conference Leadership Experience (CYCLE) is four fun-filled days of learning about electric cooperatives, Missouri government and leadership skills. Barry Electric will send two area high school sophomores or juniors to Jefferson City from July 16-19 for this fantastic experience. Students are engaged from daybreak until lights out, forging friendships and taking home what they learned about cooperatives, leadership and government. Missouri Century Farm application open
The Barry County MU Extension Missouri Century Farm application process is open. Guidelines used for the selection and recognition of Missouri Century Farms include: The same family must have owned the farm for 100 consecutive years or more as of Dec. 31, 2024; The line of ownership from the original settler or buyer may be through children, grandchildren, siblings and nephews and nieces, including through marriage or adoption; The present farm shall consist of no less than 40 acres of the original land and shall make a financial contribution to the overall farm income. Please note that applications will only be available online this year. A fee of $140 is required to cover processing costs, one certificate, a booklet and one two-sided, 2-foot by 2-foot metal sign (includes MU and Missouri Farm Bureau logos) for each approved farm. Waste Management District meeting
The Southwest Missouri Waste Management District N will hold its monthly Executive Board meeting at 11:50 a.m. on Tuesday at Angus Branch Steakhouse in Monett. This meeting is open to the public. Barry County Extension hosting meeting
The Barry County MU Extension will host its annual meeting and dinner on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at First Christian Church, located at 905 Old Exeter Road in Cassville. A hot dinner will be provided, and new Barry County Extension Council members will be in attendance. Those wishing to attend should RSVP to the MU Extension, at 417-847-3161, by Friday at noon.
Barry County Democrats to meet in Cassville
The Barry County Democrats will meet on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at El Mariachi Restaurant, located at 482 Hwy. 76 in Cassville. Barry County Clerk Joyce Ennis is scheduled to discuss the primary and caucus system and may talk about the citizens initiative process.
Voter registration ends March 6
The last day to register to vote is March 6 for those who are not current registered voters of Barry County and who wish to vote in the April 2 General Municipal Election. People may register to vote at the County Clerk’s Office; the Monett Chamber of Commerce; or the Shell Knob Chamber of Commerce. Anyone who has moved and not updated their address, or had a name change, should notify the county clerk’s office. Photo ID is required to vote in the April General Municipal Election. Absentee began Feb. 20 at the Barry County Clerk’s Office in Cassville and is ongoing Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Two-week in-person, no excuse absentee voting begins March 19. If unable to vote in person, a voter may send a written request to: Joyce Ennis, 700 Main St. Suite 2, Cassville, MO 65625 or fax to: 417-847-5311. The Office will need: name, physical address, mailing address, date of birth, last four digits of Social Security number, phone number, reason for voting absentee and signature. Those who live in the Shell Knob or Monett areas can go to the Shell Knob Chamber or Monett Chamber Office and fill out the absentee application. They will fax it to the Barry County Clerk’s office. Absentee applications are also available at sos.mo.gov. Cassville Farmers’ Market open twice per week
The Cassville Farmers’ Market is open for the season, running twice a week on Tuesdays from 4-7 p.m. across from Security Bank and Saturdays on the Cassville Square from 8 a.m. to noon. OATS rides available in Barry County
OATS Transit offers regular transportation services for the rural general public of any age, seniors, and individuals with disabilities. Please call the local OATS Transit office at 417-887-9272 or 800-770-6287 to schedule a ride or find out about services in the Barry County area. People may also visit the OATS website at oatstransit.org to view local schedules under “Bus Schedules,” then click on the county of service. OATS offices will be closed, and regular routes will not be running on Feb. 20 for Presidents’ Day. Please keep this in mind as trips are scheduled near these holidays. OATS Transit is hiring drivers statewide to can continue serving riders. Openings are listed on the OATS website.
Seligman dances ongoing each Saturday
The Seligman Chamber of Commerce country dances at the Seligman Chamber Event Center are every Saturday from 7-10 p.m. No alcohol is allowed. Admission is $10 per person, and 18-and-under are free.
